This 2004 F-250 came in rolling black smoke on acceleration. In Maricopa County, that is a guaranteed emissions failure, so we had to get to the root of the problem.

Instead of guessing and throwing parts at it, we used a magnet to test the internal VGT mechanism. As you can see in the first clip, the control needle should move freely. This one was completely frozen.

We replaced the unit, but first, we cracked it open to show the customer exactly why it failed. The side-by-side comparison shows a healthy turbo versus this stuck one. Heavy carbon soot and rust had completely seized the unison ring and locked up the turbine wheel side of the assembly, starving the engine of air and creating that black smoke.

Our policy is simple: when a customer asks to see the failed parts, we never deny them that opportunity. Transparency is everything to us.

The new turbo is installed, the exhaust is clean, and this 6.0L Power Stroke is officially ready for emissions.

This is why we never take a routine oil change for granted.

A 2010 6.4L Power Stroke normally holds 15 quarts of engine oil.

This one had over 25 quarts in it. 😳

After diagnosis, we found a failed fuel injector was allowing diesel fuel into the crankcase, causing the oil level to rise far beyond normal.

Sometimes a routine oil change can uncover a much bigger issue hiding underneath.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! Throwing it back to a 2012 Ram 2500 6.7L evaporator core replacement we completed in the shop.

The Arizona heat is here, and A/C work like this ramps up fast this time of year.

The evaporator core itself isn’t always an expensive part—the labor is what makes this job major. On these trucks, the entire dash has to come out just to access the HVAC box.

While it was apart, we installed updated blend doors and new foam seals inside the HVAC housing. These internal upgrades aren’t visible once everything is reassembled, but they help improve airflow, temperature control, and long-term reliability.
