After 17 incredible years, Thunder on the Strip is preparing to make its final passes down the taxiway at Gladwin Zettel Memorial Airport on Saturday, September 12, 2026, and there is still time for you to be part of this historic finale!

Recent changes involving the FAA and the use of federally funded airports for non-aeronautical events have led us to make the difficult decision to bring Thunder on the Strip to a close. While we are disappointed to see this chapter end, we are determined to make our final event anything but sad.

Instead, we are going to celebrate 17 years of racing, roaring engines, friendships, community support, and unforgettable memories, and we want racers, fans, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters from throughout the years to join us for one final day of thundering down the strip!

🏁 THE FINAL THUNDER ON THE STRIP 🏁

After 17 incredible years, Thunder on the Strip will roar down the runway one final time on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Gladwin Zettel Memorial Airport.

Recent changes involving the FAA and the use of federally funded airports for non-aeronautical events have forced us to make the difficult decision to bring Thunder on the Strip to a close. While we are certainly disappointed to see this chapter end, we refuse to let our final event be a sad one. Instead, we are going to make it a celebration worthy of 17 years of racing, friendship, community, and unforgettable memories!

Over the years, thousands of racers, spectators, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and community members have helped make Thunder on the Strip something truly special. Whether you raced every year, attended once, volunteered behind the scenes, sponsored the event, or simply came out to enjoy the sights and sounds, you have been an important part of the Thunder family. We cannot thank you enough for your incredible support.

So, let’s send Thunder on the Strip across the finish line the same way it began—with roaring engines, smiling faces, friendly competition, and a whole lot of fun!

Thunder Fans,

You may have noticed that the Thunder on the Strip page looks very different than usual. A former employee of one of our sponsors had been granted administrator access to assist with advertising and event-related posts. After their employment was terminated, the individual apparently used that access to delete the page’s content in retaliation.

This action did not hurt their former employer; it hurt you, our incredible Thunder on the Strip (ToTS) community. Seventeen years of event photos, videos, posts, comments, memories, and history were removed. Much of that content documented the racers, volunteers, sponsors, spectators, and families who have helped make Thunder on the Strip what it is today.

We are working to recover and restore as much content as possible. However, some of it may be permanently lost, and rebuilding the page will require many hours of work. We are extremely disappointed that one person’s actions affected an entire community and erased so much of the event’s history.

Despite this setback, Thunder on the Strip is moving forward. Please continue to follow the page and check back regularly as we rebuild and share important updates about the Fall 2026 Thunder on the Strip event, scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026.

If you have photos, videos, or special memories from past Thunder on the Strip events, we encourage you to share or repost them on our page. Your contributions will help us rebuild the page, restore some of the event’s history, and preserve the memories that make the ToTS community so special. Every photo and video helps!
