A McLaren engine built by Cannonball Garage is fundamentally different. The CSO components were co-designed by our head of special operations in collaboration with top-tier manufacturers.

CSO Exclusive Engine Components:

➡️ CSO MLX Head Gaskets: Our CSO MLX head gaskets feature proprietary cooling ports and custom thickness options that allow us to compensate for material removed during head decking. This preserves proper geometry, compression ratio, and piston-to-valve clearance.

➡️ CSO Connecting Rods: CSO connecting rods are manufactured from a proprietary material that dramatically increases strength while maintaining factory weight. Maintaining OE rod weight is critical on a flat-plane crankshaft for proper balance and longevity.

➡️ CSO Main Bearings: CSO main bearings are the only McLaren bearings available in multiple sizes. This allows us to precisely set oil clearances for any application, whether using factory main bolts or high-yield-strength fasteners.

➡️ CSO-Spec Total Seal Piston Rings: Developed exclusively with Total Seal, CSO-spec piston rings are engineered to complement the factory pistons and cylinder sleeves. The result is superior ring-to-cylinder seal, increased performance, and reduced blow-by.

➡️ CSO-Spec Forged Pistons: For clients seeking the ultimate solution, CSO forged pistons exceed OE strength and design standards while remaining weight-matched for proper flat-plane crank balance. Strength without balance is not an upgrade. These pistons deliver both.

➡️ CSO-Spec Cylinder Sleeves: At high horsepower levels, factory cylinder sleeves become a limiting factor. CSO sleeves are engineered to handle extreme output and are significantly stronger than OE and far beyond the few manufacturers simply duplicating factory designs.

➡️ CSO Head and Main Studs / Bolts: CSO fasteners are specifically designed to work within the structural limitations of the OE block and ladder frame. Using improperly engineered hardware risks thread failure, distorted bearing housings, and irreversible block damage.

➡️ This past weekend, we had the opportunity to attend the inaugural Wheaton Concours, and it did not disappoint!

Some of the most incredible cars in the world came together for an unforgettable celebration of automotive design, history, and performance. The race winning $65M McLaren F1 GTR featuring the "Gulf" livery that was actually driven to the show was obviously the fan favorite. There were other timeless classics to super cars to modern hyper cars, every corner offered something special.

This show benefits Special Olympics Illinois, and local Special Olympics athletes voted on and presented a trophy of their own on the field. ⚪ It's delivery day! Blade Silver isn’t a color you see every day. This uniquely spec’d example of a 2019 McLaren 570S recently visited Cannonball Garage for some important maintenance and diagnostics.

CBG Technician Mark performed:

📈 Another McLaren headed home after a major Cannonball Garage build with 920 WHP and 785 ft/lbs of torque!

This 720S came to us from Pennsylvania with a catastrophic engine failure. The customer opted to start fresh with a brand-new engine, and we were able to source it at a much better price than typical dealer pricing, saving him a significant amount of money on the overall build.

➡️ Before the new engine went back into the car, the owner had us tear it down and build it with our CSO Spec-T engine package, upgrading it with our CSO internals before reassembly. It also came to us with upgraded Pure 1200 turbos already installed, giving the build a strong foundation. After custom dyno tuning with M-Engineering, it made about 920 wheel horsepower and 785 ft/lbs of torque on 93 octane.

Yesterday, we had a delivery day headed back to Tennessee. Today, Pennsylvania. That is the reality of Cannonball Garage. Clients ship us cars from all over the country because they trust our team, our process, and our experience with the McLaren platform.

This time, they brought in their Lamborghini Gallardo Performante for service, and it is hard not to appreciate just how special this car is. Lightweight, sharp, open-top, all-wheel drive, and powered by that iconic Lamborghini V10, the Performante brings a completely different kind of energy into the shop.

➡️ While McLarens are what we are best known for, our team also services and supports a range of high-performance exotic vehicles. From Tennessee to Texas, Florida, California, and everywhere in between, McLaren owners trust Cannonball Garage because we know these cars, we know the failure points, and we know how to build them the right way.

➡️ This 2018 McLaren 720S came to us from Tennessee with an engine issue that turned out to be a broken connecting rod. That is a catastrophic failure, but fortunately, the way it failed did not destroy the block beyond repair.

Thanks to the knowledge, resources, and process our team has developed around the McLaren platform, we were able to repair the block in a confidence-inspiring way and save the customer from having to purchase a new core.

While the engine was apart, the customer chose to upgrade it with our CSO components, including our connecting rods, piston rings, head studs, main studs, and supporting peripherals. The goal was not just to get the car back on the road, but to build a stronger foundation in case he decides to go after more power in the future.

📈 After the rebuild, this 720 made about 850 wheel horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque on 93 octane.

Now we are in the street tuning process, validating the car, and making sure everything feels right before it heads back home to Tennessee.
