The 3 documents required to be in your vehicle at all times in Washington State are as follows:
-Valid Driver’s License or Learner’s Permit
-Proof of Insurance (Make/Model/Not Expired)
-Valid Registration
All of the above can be on your phone except the Driver’s License.
Your name does not need to be on the Proof of Insurance but the Make/Model must match and it cannot be expired.
in Washington State, you need to have written permission from the owner to drive their car. It's illegal to allow someone to drive a vehicle registered in your name without authorization, and it's considered a misdemeanor. Driving someone else's car without their permission can be a liability issue for both of you.
The written permission slip for someone to drive your car generally does not need to be notarized in most situations; a simple signed document with the owner's information and the authorized driver's details is usually sufficient. Never keep your car title in your glovebox.
