A fogged up window……..
On a vehicle that’s been sitting for a long time and going to be scrapped. So I arrive to work this morning to a large rolling suitcase next to this vehicle. I tap it with my foot to discover it’s quite heavy. As I do that I hear the noise of the driver door opening up and see the windshield completely fogged over. An elderly, bundled up women steps out of the car. I asked her what’s going on and she reply’s, “there was no plate on the car and it was open so I jumped in to sleep”. I asked her to grab her things please and informed her I was going to open the front door to let her into the waiting room where it’s warm. I thought to myself, who do I know that can help. My long time friend Doug is a social worker in the area. So after not speaking to him since high school days in the late 90’s, I call him. He answers! I explain the situation and he actually recommends a local non for profit that is an account of ours. They are going to come pick her up and get the ball rolling on the programs that get her back on her feet. I call, and unfortunately they can not help. I’ve been exhausting resources all morning with no result. SHARE this, let the power of social media help this women. Let’s find the solution!
You never know what people are going through, so think about that before you react to a situation. I thought to myself also, what if this would have been a male in the car, would I have felt as compelled to help? And I don’t know that I initially would have. But why should that have mattered? That’s why I’m saying, if you can help, HELP. Don’t assume anything, walk away knowing you did all you could.
