We’re right in the middle of another stretch of extreme summer heat, and your car feels it too. When temperatures stay this high for several days, components like the battery, cooling system, tires, and A/C can all be under added stress.

𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁:

• 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔/𝗖 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. Weak airflow or air that isn’t staying cold can become a much bigger issue during extreme heat.

• 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗲. If your engine starts running hotter than usual, don’t ignore it.

• 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘆𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲. Heat can increase tire pressure and add stress to already worn tires.

• 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆. High temperatures can accelerate battery wear and shorten its life.

• 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. It can help reduce cabin heat and give your A/C a little less work to do.

*** If your A/C is struggling, your engine is running hotter than usual, or your battery or tires are showing signs of heat-related wear, have them checked before the next stretch of extreme temperatures puts even more strain on your vehicle.

As you know, gas prices around here remain high, and with Labor Day weekend coming up, a lot of us may be putting some extra miles on the car. If a road trip is in your plans, a few simple driving habits and maintenance checks can help you get better fuel economy along the way.

1️⃣ 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗧𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲: Properly inflated tires reduce rolling resistance and help your vehicle operate more efficiently.

2️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Fresh oil, clean filters, and routine service can all play a part in maintaining good fuel economy.
