Monday's Mention
Summer Driving Pro Tip for Women

☀️ Don't Wait for Your Vehicle to Tell You It's Overheating

One of the most common summer breakdowns starts long before a warning light comes on.

Your cooling system is responsible for regulating engine temperature, protecting vital engine components, and keeping you comfortable inside the vehicle. A small coolant leak, aging radiator hose, weak thermostat, or worn cooling fan can leave you stranded on the side of the road when temperatures rise.

Here's your Monday Pro Tip:

✅ If your temperature gauge is running higher than normal
✅ If you notice a sweet smell under the hood
✅ If your air conditioning suddenly stops blowing cold at idle
✅ If you see any fluid under your vehicle

Don't ignore it.

At Blazek Diagnostic & Automotive Repair, we believe peace of mind comes from understanding what's happening with your vehicle—not guessing.

As women, we're often taught to push through discomfort and hope things work themselves out. The same isn't true for your vehicle. Taking a moment to investigate a concern early can save you thousands of dollars and prevent a vacation, road trip, or busy week from being interrupted.

We don't guess.
We test, verify, and explain.

Because confidence comes from clarity.

This is lengthy, but VERY pertinent with our current fuel prices and the quality of the lower rated fuels (89 and 87) showing higher ethanol levels than Tony or I have ever seen before.

Premium Fuel vs. Regular Fuel: Is 91 Octane Really Worth It?

One of the questions we hear regularly at Blazek Diagnostic & Automotive Repair is:

"Is premium fuel really worth the extra cost?"

The answer is not always straightforward, but understanding how fuel works can help you make a more informed decision for your vehicle.

What Does Octane Really Mean?

Many drivers assume that higher-octane fuel contains more energy or more power. In reality, octane is simply a measure of a fuel's resistance to detonation, sometimes called spark knock or pre-ignition.

Your engine is designed to ignite the air-fuel mixture at a very specific moment. When fuel ignites too early or burns uncontrollably, it creates excessive pressure and heat inside the engine. This can reduce efficiency and, over time, contribute to engine damage.

Higher-octane fuel is more resistant to this unwanted combustion, allowing the engine to operate closer to its intended design.

Why Some Vehicles Perform Better on 91 Octane

Most modern vehicles are equipped with sophisticated engine management systems and knock sensors. These systems constantly monitor engine performance and make adjustments to protect the engine.

When lower-octane fuel is used, the vehicle's computer may:

• Re**rd ignition timing
• Reduce engine performance
• Limit turbocharger boost pressure
• Adjust fuel delivery strategies

When higher-octane fuel is used, many engines can operate more efficiently because they are not forced to make those protective adjustments.

This is particularly true for:

• Turbocharged engines
• Direct-injected engines
• High-compression engines
• Vehicles designed to recommend or require premium fuel

Many drivers report improved throttle response, smoother operation, and better fuel economy when using 91-octane fuel.

Fuel Economy Is About More Than Octane

Another factor that often gets overlooked is ethanol content.

Ethanol contains less energy per gallon than gasoline. While ethanol serves important purposes in modern fuels, increased ethanol content can reduce overall fuel economy because the engine must burn more fuel to produce the same amount of energy.

In many cases, drivers who switch to a high-quality 91-octane fuel notice improved fuel economy not simply because of the octane rating itself, but because the fuel may allow the engine to operate more efficiently while also providing greater energy content per gallon.

What About Fuel Additives?

We are frequently asked about fuel system cleaners, injector treatments, and various fuel additives advertised at auto parts stores.

The truth is that modern gasoline already contains sophisticated additive packages designed to:

• Clean fuel injectors
• Prevent deposits
• Reduce corrosion
• Improve fuel stability

Many major fuel brands include detergents and cleaning agents directly in the fuel.

While there are situations where a specific additive may be beneficial, routinely adding aftermarket products to every tank of fuel is often unnecessary.

In some cases, excessive use of fuel additives can actually create new problems by altering the chemistry that modern engines and fuel systems were designed to use.

Our Recommendation

At Blazek Diagnostic & Automotive Repair, we believe in testing, verifying, and explaining before making recommendations.

If your vehicle requires premium fuel, we strongly recommend following the manufacturer's specifications.

If premium fuel is only recommended rather than required, it may still provide benefits in performance, drivability, and fuel economy depending on your vehicle and driving habits.

As for fuel additives, we generally recommend investing in quality fuel and proper maintenance before spending money on products that may provide little measurable benefit.

Every vehicle is different. If you have questions about what fuel is best for your specific vehicle, we're happy to help you make an informed decision based on facts—not marketing claims.

Because when it comes to your vehicle, guessing is expensive. Proper testing and accurate information save money.
