Saturday Oct 24th driving tour,

Joel and I are planning a combination tour for this Saturday, Oct. 24th. Meet us at the old Courthouse in Independence at 10:00.

We are travelling to the Settlers Museum of Southwest Virginia in Atkins. It's a setting centered around a 19th century homestead and farm, along with a period schoolhouse. Afterward, we'll eat lunch at a local Subway (the only restaurant close by). We'll head home by another route, coming through Sugar Grove and over the mountain through Flat Ridge back to Independence. The fall leaves should be in full color. Right now the weather looks clear and maybe a bit cool. We are taking our 1930's cars, so it won't be fast but not too slow, either. We should be home by 3:00 or so (barring any roadside car repairs).

Thanks to Tom & Faye Littrell for leading the tour to Cass Railroad State Park last week. By all reports, members that went on the trip really enjoyed their 2 days exploring the railroad & that area of West Virginia.

The Twin County Region AACA will meet this Tuesday October 13, 2026 at Old Cranks Museum, beginning at 7:00pm.

One thing to keep in mind is our annual Christmas dinner which is scheduled for Tuesday December 8, 2026 at the museum.
The menu will be the same as last year, with the same price of $16 per member (& invited guests). The meal will be catered once again by "Kirsten Leonard Personal Chef".
Members also voted in favor of keeping the tradition going with the "dirty santa" gift exchange, we usually have a $10 limit on gifts. It is always a fun night of fellowship & delicious food.
We'll be needing a head count of those planning to attend the meal at least by our November meeting.
Feel free to email me any time between now & the November 10 meeting if you're planning to attend.

Everyone please come to the October meeting with ideas of activities the club can do over the winter months to stay active.

We have our election of officers for 2027 coming up Soon, PLEASE consider accepting the nomination for one of the positions. It is healthy for the club to have new folks with new ideas coming forward to fill the positions.

President Mike Westervelt is always looking for anyone who has an idea, or can present a program at any of our meetings. It can be a video you wish to present, talk to the group about an automobile related topic, or ???

Faye Littrell is always appreciative to anyone who wishes to bring a 16oz jar of peanut butter to any meeting to benefit the "Backpack Buddy" program.

Looking forward to seeing all that can attend this Tuesday.

Reservations have been made by Tom Littrell for the October 1 Cass Railroad Bald K**b 5 hour train trip.
So far Charles/Sarah Rudy, Dick/Linda Cooley and Tom/Faye Littrell will be going, Tom has not heard from anyone else.

If there are folks that want to go, they will need to go to the Cass Railroad website and make their own reservations. We are in car #11.
We plan to leave early Thursday morning October 1st. It’s about a 4 hour drive. The train leaves at noon for the 5 hour ride & lunch.

Motel reservations are still being worked on. All of the company houses were booked.

Let Tom Littrell know ASAP if you are interested so he can coordinate plans.

Should be beautiful weather next week for the trip as temps are forecast to rebound.

AACA members! Reminder that the latest edition of the magazine has the annual renewal for all members.

At the Twin County Region AACA September meeting it was a unanimous vote that we contact "Kirston Leonard - Personal Chef" about catering our Christmas meal again this year. Thankfully we were able to schedule them again for this year.

The dinner will be held Tuesday December 8, 2026 at Old Cranks Museum.
We usually begin to gather around 6pm, with the meal served at 6:30pm.

The menu will be the same as last year which includes:
Grilled Chicken Breast & Thyme Roasted Pork Loin,
Red Skin Mashed Potatoes, Southern Style Green Beans, Garden Salad with Dressing, Rolls.
Desserts along with Tea & Lemonade.
The price will be $19 per person, same as last year. Pay the night of the meal.

We will need a head count of those attending the dinner to ensure the caterer has adequate food.
It's still early, but we'll talk about it more at our October 13, 2026 AACA meeting.
In the meantime please mark this date on your calendar with hopes you can be there.

We will be doing "Dirty Santa" again this year for those who wish to participate.
It's always an enjoyable night of fun & fellowship.

The Twin County AACA met tonight at Old Cranks Museum.

A Big Thank You goes out to Charles Rudy & Joel Rudy for the program they presented concerning antique aircraft.

Tom Littrell will be hosting a trip to Cass Railroad State Park to enjoy a train ride to "Bald K**b".
The group will leave early on Thursday October 1, 2026 and return on the evening of Friday October 2nd.
If you wish to participate on the tour, please let Tom Littrell know ([email protected]) ASAP, as the availability of tickets to ride the train and the availability of lodging changes daily.

The next AACA meeting will be held Tuesday October 13, beginning at 7:00pm at Old Cranks Museum.

Faye Littrell is always grateful for anyone who wishes to bring a 16oz jar of peanut butter to benefit the "Backpack Buddies" to any of the meetings.
