Twin County Region - AACA

Twin County Region - AACA Twin County Region AACA, Galax, VA, is an antique car club which has about 60 + member families. We have members from Staunton, VA to Mocksville, NC.

Antique car ownership is not a requirement for joining, only an interest in them. It is a requirement of TCR that one must be a member of the AACA to join the local club. We have at least one driving tour every month, usually on the back roads of our area, which always includes a stop for a meal. Our motto is "Live to Drive, Drive to Eat"! We meet monthly from September to April at Old Cranks Motorcar Museum on the second Tuesday at 7 pm.

Charles Rudy ask that I forward this to club members.
Please keep Bill & the family in your prayers.

From Charles;
I want to let the club know that Bill Irwin's wife, Dorothy, died unexpectedly last night at Hugh Chatham Hospital in Elkin. She had fallen earlier in the day and was taken to the hospital, but began to decline and did not survive.
Those of us who know Bill realize this is a tremendous loss to him and his family.

There will not be a formal service, though later on the family will have a private graveside service.

From Bret Harrison
“Thanks to Doc Littrell and the members of our local car club for putting on a soggy but enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend event in downtown GALAX, Virginia today.

I always love talking to some fellow car nerds. This year I was excited to see another Miata entered, a super-rare factory turbocharged 2004 Mazdaspeed!”image0.jpeg

Everything was perfect except maybe the damp atmosphere.
Thanks to all of you TCR members and some other volunteers who made the show go smoothly. I don’t remember so many folks signing up to help out in every position.
The note from Bret makes it worthwhile, for me anyway, to have a car show to encourage our fellow car nuts to drive and share their vehicles with others. The loooooong range forecast for May 29, 2027 is looking pretty good! 😉
Again hats off to all who braved the less than ideal conditions today.
Cheers,
Tom

Another year in the books!!!
President Mike Westervelt and car show chairman Tom Littrell would like to thank the many Twin County Region AACA members, all the sponsors, and everyone else for your help to make the car show a reality again this year.
It was a damp cool day for a car show, but everyone enjoyed talking with other "car nuts" and seemed to enjoy the show.
Plans are underway for the 33rd annual "Memories on Main" car show to be held Memorial Day weekend 2027 !
A request was made with mother nature for a warm sunny day for the 2027 show!

Best of Show trophy today went with a 1975 Chevrolet Corvette, owned by River & Bailey Brooks from Sparta, N.C.
The car belonged to his mom, who reluctantly let it set in a barn for approximately 20 years before it was passed down to him. He got the car running & was driving it when the brakes failed, which resulted in a crash. River Bailey then restored the car with a lot of "elbow grease" to the condition it is in today. They were a very interesting young couple to talk with, and we will definitely be seeing them at future shows. This family has been the home for this corvette the biggest part of it's life.
It's a reminder the younger generation is what will keep the hobby going on & on!

The Twin County Region AACA wishes to remember all branches of our military during this Memorial Day weekend for the sacrifices so many have made.
May God Bless

Even though it was raining, some still showed up with their cars and attended the annual event.
Best of show to River and Bailey Brooks and their 75 Corvette (has newer front bumper) that is restored.

Either rain or shine, it is a "GO" for the annual Twin County AACA "Memories on Main" car show being held tomorrow, Saturday May 23rd, from 9:00am till 2:00pm, as classic autos fill main street in Galax.
Looks like a good possibility for much needed showers thru the day, but it does appear the rain may be light, only time will tell as to what mother nature gives us.

Setup begins at 8:00am, registration & parking the classic cars at 9:00am, judging at 11:00am (meet at the registration tent at the farmers market area), trophies given out at 2:00pm, cleanup shortly thereafter.

Everyone come out and enjoy the day.

Thanks to everyone for your hard work & commitment in making this year show another success for the 32nd year in a row.

As time draws near, another message for this Saturday car show.

Since a lot of us will be parking cars, then at 11:00am we will begin judging the cars, looks like there's just not any room in there for lunch.
So.. There will be a cooler with bottled water, and a few lights snacks for everyone located at the registration tent at the Farmers Market.
This is also the place we'll have our judges meeting at 11:00am before the judging begins.

As in all other years, members cars cannot be judged, We will be parking members cars again this year on the side street in front of Macado's restaurant. We do encourage everyone to drive their classic to the show!

As always, things do come up at the last minute we can't avoid. If for whatever reason you signed up for a task on Saturday, but an issue will not let you be there, we understand completely. But Please let Tom Littrell know ASAP (or respond to this email) so we can cover that task with someone else.

The ladies at the registration tent can always use extra help, sometimes they get over-run with cars entering the show.

And again, the entire club appreciates everything that has been done by members to make the show a success again this year, for the 32nd year!

We're still in need of door prizes if you have anyone you can contact that would like to donate anything, the club will surely appreciate it.

Setup begins 8:00 a.m. (includes loading supplies at Old Cranks Museum & transport to main street). Joel Rudy, Elijah Funk, and Dan Loftis, Charles Rudy, Gary Bourne, Mark Ogle, and Ty Harrison have signed up to help with getting the items to main street.

Registration begins 9:00 a.m. (It is requested those folks be at the Farmer's market on Main street by 8:30a.m. to prepare).
Janice Bourne, Patty Brewer, Susan Jennings, & Sue Westervelt, Linda Cooley, have signed up to register car show entrants as they arrive.

Begin parking cars 9:00 a.m.
Charles Rudy, Joel Rudy, Dick Cooley, Gary Bourne, Elijah Funk, Greg Armentrou, Mike Westervelt, & Dan Loftis, D.J. Stewart, Roy Truitt, Jim Baxley and Mark Ogle have signed up to help.
This year it was decided to park cars diagonally on the west side of the street, then park the cars parallel to the sidewalk on the east side of main street. This allows passageway for emergency vehicles if needed.
If we have any "large" trucks we usually park those on one of the side streets.
We will have orange mesh safety vests that we request those members parking cars to wear. They're for your safety of being seen by moving vehicles, and so entrants can pick you out in a crowd as they're being shown where to park.

Judging begins at 11:00 a.m.

Clean-up after the show will begin shortly after 2:00 p.m.
Charles Rudy, Joel Rudy, Dick Cooley, Roy Truitt, Mark Ogle, Sandra & Kenneth Melton, Jim Baxley, & Gary Bourne have volunteered to help.

Trophies will be awarded at 2:00pm. We always need 2-3 members to help Tom Littrell with that.

It appears the weather will be a lot cooler Saturday, with a 50/50 chance of showers. Should be a fun/busy day!
