Another engine repair brought to you by cylinder deactivation… everyone’s favorite fuel-saving mystery feature. 😂🔧

In theory, cylinder deactivation is supposed to help improve fuel economy by shutting down certain cylinders when they’re not needed.

In reality? We keep seeing engines come in with damaged lifters, worn camshafts, bent pushrods, and a repair bill that makes everyone wonder how much fuel we were actually saving here.

This one had some serious internal damage, and the parts tell the story pretty clearly. When these systems fail, they don’t always fail quietly.

At SDC Automotive, we’re not here to argue with the engineers… but we do spend a lot of time cleaning up after some of their “great ideas.” 😂

If your engine has a tick, misfire, rough running, or warning light, don’t ignore it. Catching it early can make a big difference.

Covered in oil, surrounded by parts, and working through the kind of heat that makes every repair feel like a team-building exercise nobody signed up for.

Some days you’re diagnosing. Some days you’re wrenching. And some days you’re just trying to remember what clean hands felt like.

Usually auto repair means squeezing your hand past three hoses, two brackets, and one bolt that was clearly installed by someone with the hands of a squirrel.

But this one? Kevin’s got space. Elbow room. Breathing room. Maybe even room to invite a friend.

At SDC Automotive, we’re used to working in tight spots, but we’re definitely not mad when a vehicle gives us a little room to play.

We’re not 100% sure what stage of the repair this is, but the tablet is out, the flashlight is involved, and Brett has fully committed his upper body to the mission.

That usually means one thing at SDC Automotive: something is hiding where no human hand was ever meant to reach.

Whether it’s diagnostics, wiring, hoses, sensors, or just one extremely disrespectful bolt, Brett’s in there getting it handled.

Adjustable control arms are one of those upgrades where the goal isn’t just to install shiny new parts. It’s to get the geometry right so the vehicle drives, handles, and wears tires the way it should.

Because when it comes to suspension work, “eyeballing it” is how you end up with a car that drives sideways and a set of tires filing a complaint.

The weather is heating up, which means our techs have officially switched into shorts mode.

Every big job has stages:

Take it apart.
Wonder why the engineers did this.
Call over a buddy.
Continue suffering together.

At SDC Automotive, some repairs take tools, experience, and patience… but the really fun ones also require someone nearby to supervise, encourage, and occasionally say, “Yeah, that looks terrible.”

Teamwork makes the dream work, or at least makes the big jobs slightly less miserable. 💪

We're all for ignoring weird noises for a day or two... but this is your reminder that sometimes that strange sound isn't your car being dramatic. Sometimes it's a suspension component deciding it's had enough of pothole season.

Thankfully, the customer listened to their instincts, called us immediately, and made it here safely before things got much worse.

Moral of the story: If your car starts making a new crunching, clunking, banging, grinding, or "that definitely wasn't there yesterday" noise, don't wait. Give us a call.

And to whoever is manufacturing these potholes... business is booming, but we'd still like a word. 😂

Some vehicles roll right into the shop. Others need a pep talk, a jump pack, a little persuasion, and one technician quietly questioning how his morning got here.

Don’t worry, Brett’s got it handled. The vehicle may not be cooperating, but stubborn cars still end up in the bay. 💪

He’s just getting started on a transmission replacement here at SDC Automotive. One of those jobs where step one is confidence, step two is patience, and step three is probably moving something else out of the way first.

Big jobs don’t scare us. They just require the right tools, the right plan, and a technician willing to have a full-blown staring contest with the underside of a vehicle.

Kevin’s on it. 💪
