🛑 PARKING BRAKE FAILURE: THIS IS WHAT NEGLECT LOOKS LIKE 🛑
Take a close look at these photos from a vehicle that came into our shop.
Photo 1: The parking brake shoes are completely worn away. There's no friction material left, just bare metal rubbing against metal. That means the parking brake has no real holding power, and the metal-on-metal contact is damaging the surrounding parts.
Photo 2: The parking brake cable is rusted, frayed, and falling apart. A cable in this condition can snap or seize, and it can't do its job.
What does your parking brake do?
It holds your vehicle in place when parked, especially on hills and driveways. It also serves as a backup if there's a problem with your main braking system.
What can happen if this job is left undone?
⚠️ Your vehicle can roll away when parked, even on a slight incline
⚠️ A seized or broken cable can leave a brake dragging, causing heat, smoke, and premature wear
⚠️ Metal-on-metal contact can ruin the drums, backing plates, and hardware, turning a small repair into a big one
⚠️ You could fail a state safety inspection
⚠️ Loss of your backup braking when you need it most
The good news? This is preventable. Your brake system should be inspected at least once a year. A quick check catches worn shoes, rusty cables, and leaking components early, when repairs are simple and much more affordable. Wait too long and you're paying for far more than you needed to.
Don't wait for a problem to find you. 🔧
