18 months ago, we initially ceramic coated this Tundra..03.18.2025 to be exact.
Recently, we followed up for a routine inspection and maintenance wash when the owner mentioned that the coating didn’t seem to be performing like it once did, especially on the lower portions of the truck.
The culprit? Tar. Lots of it.
With the recent road construction near his home, daily commuting over fresh asphalt had left the lower portions of the truck heavily contaminated and essentially clogged the coating.
This is actually a common occurrence with ceramic coatings. Over time, road grime, brake dust, oils, tar, sap, chemicals, and other contaminants can build up on the coating and prevent it from performing properly.
So, how do you bring it back?
We started with multiple rounds of chemical pre-treatment to safely loosen the contamination, followed by a thorough contact wash. From there, the Tundra spent several hours inside receiving a meticulous clay treatment to remove the contamination that was truly stuck to the surface.
Once the tar and buildup were removed from the paint and glass, we polished the windows, performed multiple IPA prep stages, and finished by applying a fresh ceramic top coat to every surface.
The result? It looks and performs just like it did when we first coated it. 🤌🤩
More importantly, the owner now knows exactly what happened and how to properly maintain the coating moving forward.
That’s what proper ceramic coating maintenance is all about - not just applying the coating, but standing behind it and taking care of the vehicle long after the initial install.
