Second Chances Garage Inc. Second Chances Garage is a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization.

Second Chances Garage empowers families with financial challenges to achieve economic and personal independence through car ownership and provide Low-Cost auto repair to keep their car on the road so they can provide for their family. We accept donations of used vehicles, refurbish them, have them MD state inspected and put them in the hands of low-income working families in Frederick County. Our

Reduced-Cost Car Repair program also helps to make car repair and maintenance affordable for people who qualify. We partner with over 50 local agencies who are helping individuals and families find their way out of tough circumstances.

We are incredibly grateful for the leadership and dedication of our past Chairwoman, Laura Lolly Conway Johnson. Laura has been instrumental in helping us grow and expand our impact over the years.

One of Laura’s biggest contributions was the idea to launch our golf tournament, an event that turned into a huge success, and continues to make a difference for our mission. Her vision, passion, and commitment have helped shape where we are today.

To honor her many contributions, we were proud to present Laura with a plaque as a small token of our appreciation. Thank you, Laura, for your heart, leadership, and belief in what we do. Your impact will be felt for years to come!

Yesterday we celebrated Candace as she received a 1999 Subaru Legacy through our vehicle program in partnership with SHIP of Frederick County. Despite facing housing instability and transportation challenges, Candace has remained determined to build a brighter future for herself and her family.

Candace currently works two jobs, is graduating from high school next week, and has already earned scholarships to attend Hood College this fall. Receiving this vehicle will provide greater independence and stability, helping her get to school, work, graduation activities, and future opportunities more reliably.

We are incredibly proud of Candace’s perseverance, hard work, and commitment to achieving her dreams.

She grew up determined to build a different future for herself, pursuing a path in healthcare and earning her CNA/GNA certification while working toward a career in nursing. Along the way, life brought difficult challenges that led her away from the goals she once held so tightly, and she found herself struggling in ways she never imagined.

Today, she is choosing a new direction. With more than 16 months of sobriety, she is deeply committed to her recovery, staying connected to a strong support system and actively helping others in recovery as well. She continues to pursue her dream of building a meaningful career in nursing and creating a stable, hopeful future for herself.

Reliable transportation will provide an important step forward - allowing her to maintain and grow her employment opportunities, continue her education, attend recovery meetings, and remain connected to the community that supports her growth and healing.

Her journey is one of resilience, determination, and second chances.
