Frederick, this is what buying a car should feel like.

Matt's experience with Roberto is a great reminder: a fair price and a low-pressure process aren't the exception here, they're the standard. Thinking about your next Subaru? Ask us how we keep the process simple from start to finish. 844-709-3592

Subaru Models Built in the United States
As a relatively small manufacturer, Subaru has only one manufacturing facility outside of its home country of Japan. That facility is right in the heart of the United States, in Lafayette, Indiana. The Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) plant in Lafayette has been building some of its most popular models for over 35 years. The four models currently built at the plant include:

Legacy
Outback
Impreza
Ascent
The Legacy was the first model to be built at the plant, back when the plant was co-owned by Isuzu, which built pickup trucks at the same facility. When the Outback was spun out of the Legacy wagon, it was built in the same plant. 2025 marks the final year for the Legacy as the U.S. market shows ever more preferences for SUVs and crossovers. The new 2026 Outback will continue to be built in the Lafayette plant.

The Impreza began production in 2016, coinciding with the introduction of the fifth-generation model. The Ascent is Subaru’s largest model and was designed specifically for the U.S. market, where three-row crossovers are a popular vehicle category. It has always been manufactured at the Lafayette plant, with some models exported to foreign markets.

Benefits of Subaru Manufacturing in the United States
Subaru’s decision to manufacture vehicles in the U.S. precedes any discussion of tariffs and other political issues. The primary reasons for manufacturing vehicles in the U.S include:

Immediacy to Market: Manufacturing vehicles closer to the main customer base lowers shipping costs and delivery times.
Tailoring to Market: Manufacturing vehicles in the U.S. allows Subaru to tailor models to the unique needs and preferences of American customers.
Economic Impact: Domestic manufacturing bolsters local economies by creating jobs and encouraging economic growth.
Environmental Dedication: SIA’s zero-landfill status and other eco-friendly initiatives showcase Subaru’s dedication to sustainability.
The high quality of vehicles from its U.S. plant has helped Subaru earn its reputation for quality, high resale value, and the titles of 2025 Best Overall Automotive Brand and 2025 Most Reliable Automotive Brand from Consumer Reports.
