🚗👶 FREE Car Seat Safety Checks – June 6! 👶🚗

Did you know that nearly half of all car seats are installed or used incorrectly? Even loving, attentive parents can unknowingly make mistakes that reduce a car seat’s ability to protect a child in a crash.

That’s why the Traffic Safety Association of Macomb County and Macomb County WIC are offering FREE Car Seat Safety Checks to help keep children safe on the road!

Our certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will:
✅ Check your car seat installation
✅ Ensure your child is in the correct seat for their age, height, and weight
✅ Review harness fit and adjustment
✅ Answer questions and provide hands-on education
✅ Help give you peace of mind

Why is this important?
🔹 Motor vehicle crashes remain one of the leading causes of injury and death for children.
🔹 Properly used car seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury by as much as 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers in passenger vehicles.
🔹 Many common mistakes—such as loose installation, harnesses that are too loose, or transitioning to the next seat too soon—can significantly reduce protection during a crash.

🚨 April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month 🚨

Every time you take your eyes off the road—even for just a few seconds—you’re putting yourself and others at serious risk.

📱 Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for about 5 seconds…
At 55 mph, that’s like driving the length of a football field blindfolded.

Here’s why this matters—especially right here in Michigan:

➡️ In 2023, there were over 15,000 crashes involving distracted drivers in Michigan
➡️ Those crashes led to nearly 6,000 injuries and dozens of deaths
➡️ About 1 in 20 crashes in Michigan involve distracted driving
➡️ Texting drivers are 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash
➡️ Over 1/3 of these crashes happen at intersections—places we all travel every day

And remember:
🚫 Michigan law now prohibits holding or using a phone while driving—even at a stoplight!

💡 Distracted driving isn’t just texting.
It includes eating, adjusting music, talking to passengers, or anything that takes your:
👀 Eyes off the road
👐 Hands off the wheel
🧠 Mind off driving

✅ Simple ways to stay safe:
✔️ Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb”
✔️ Set your GPS & music before you start driving
