đ„ A âBARNâ BURNER AT McGOWAN HOLLOW!
Wind & Wedge Short Course League â Week 5 Playoff Preview
Four weeks down. Nine holes remaining. Four playoff spots. And somebody is about to have their heart broken.
If you were hoping for a quiet finish to the inaugural Wind & Wedge Short Course League, youâve come to the wrong Hollow.
With one week remaining in the regular season, the top two teams have established themselves. But behind them? Weâve got ourselves a full-blown âBARNâ BURNER for the final two playoff spots!
THE WOODCHIPPERS ARE STILL CHOPPING
Jason DePugh and Tommy Woods apparently havenât gotten the memo that golf is supposed to be difficult.
After firing a 23 in Week 3, they followed it up with ANOTHER 23 in Week 4. Thatâs eight under par over their last 18 holes!
At 98 (-10), The Woodchippers have a three-stroke lead and one hand on the regular-season crown.
But donât start engraving the trophy just yet.
THE B**R CART BANDITS ARE STILL IN PURSUIT
Kirk Mowery and Adam Conner arenât going anywhere.
The B**r Cart Bandits fired a 24 in Week 4, bringing their season total to 101 (-7).
Three shots back. Nine holes to play.
Theyâve demonstrated that a few cold beverages, some questionable vocabulary, and quality golf can coexist quite nicely.
If the Bandits can put together one more low round, things could get interesting at the top.
But the real entertainment is happening a little farther down the leaderboard.
đ„ THE GREAT PLAYOFF TRAFFIC JAM
Three teams. Two playoff tickets. ONE STROKE separating them.
Tied for 3rd â Jake Arthurs / Adam Kirby: 114 (+6)
Arthurs and Kirby have quietly climbed into playoff position. Their 28 in Week 4 was enough to move them into a tie for third.
Theyâre in the driverâs seat for now, but the rearview mirror is getting crowded.
Tied for 3rd â John Dunfee / Todd Yeagle: 114 (+6)
Dunfee and Yeagle had been the picture of consistency, posting back-to-back 27s in Weeks 2 and 3.
Then came Week 4.
A 30 wasnât disastrous, but it was enough to erase their cushion. Suddenly, the guys who looked comfortably positioned are staring at a final-week showdown.
5th â Luke Feeney / Jarrod Burgess: 115 (+7)
And here come the bubble boys!
Feeney and Burgess are sitting exactly ONE STROKE outside the playoff field.
One birdie. One missed short putt. One unfortunate bounce.
Thatâs the difference between playing for a championship and watching somebody else do it.
If youâre looking for pressure golf, this is it.
DONâT FORGET ABOUT THE CHASERS
Shane Stinnett / Bruce McAfee â 117 (+9)
After a rough Week 2, Stinnett and McAfee have responded with consecutive rounds of 28 and 26.
Theyâre just three shots outside the playoff cut. Another strong performance, combined with a little help from the teams ahead, could turn the standings upside down.
Brian Towler / Al Bunovsky â 120 (+12)
Ah yes, The Old Guard.
The two old-timers are still hanging around, six shots outside the playoff cut.
They may be giving away 20 years to most of the field, but donât tell them theyâre finished. Nothing would please Brian and Al more than sneaking into the playoffs and spending the next six months reminding the younger guys who sent them home.
Kyle Baxter / Jason Lemaster â 124 (+16)
And then we have The Sleeping Giants.
Two legitimately good golfers who have somehow managed to keep the rest of the league guessing for four consecutive weeks.
Kyle recently broke 80 on a regulation course, yet this team has struggled to find its rhythm at the Hollow.
Theyâre facing a steep climb, but thereâs still one last opportunity to remind everybody what theyâre capable of.
WEEK 5 â JUDGMENT DAY AT THE HOLLOW
Hereâs where things stand entering the final nine holes:
