So, my wife sent a text to me with a link to a road trip article and the line, "Sounds like fun."

I'm not sure she expected the intensity of my reaction.

I mapped the route and this trip should be possible in our current (pun intended) EV. If we took two months to drive the 10,400 mile trip, we could get in lots of camping and siteseeing.

Lots of budgeting, reservations, equipment, etc to set up, but what an amazing road trip this would be!

EVs were supposed to be the villain during last week's heat wave grid crisis. Turns out they were the hero, feeding stored battery power back to keep the lights on and AC running.

A Tesla Model 3 pressed into heavy Uber service has rolled past 255,000 miles while still running its original battery pack, a milestone that cuts straight at the biggest worry many buyers still have about going electric. Over all those miles the car needed only routine upkeep such as tires, suspension parts, and other normal wear items, with no expensive battery swap and none of the engine, transmission, or exhaust repairs a gas car would have piled up by now. The result lines up with a growing body of real world data showing Tesla packs holding the vast majority of their capacity well beyond 200,000 miles, helped by the company's active thermal management and steady software tuning. For ride hailing drivers in particular, that kind of longevity reshapes the math, since fuel and maintenance savings compound over hundreds of thousands of miles.
