Tug Singleton SCARP Event is Coming This Saturday to Little Jim
NORTH HUTCHINSON ISLAND, FLORIDA: located at 601 N Causeway in Fort Pierce Florida will be the place to be Saturday July 31 as they host the St. Lucie County Artificial Reef Program’s (SCARP) latest initiative, the Tug Singleton Project. Starting at noon and lasting until 6:30 p.m., this free, family friendly event will offer a myriad fun activities everyone will certainly enjoy. SCARP will use all of the funds raised to clean and prepare the Tug Singleton for sinking and ultimately becoming the County’s 50th artificial reef in August. McCulley Marine Services, Inc., Summerlin's Marine Construction, and Marine Cleanup Initiative Inc have partnered up in an effort to help cover the cost to clean and deploy the retired, donated vessel.
Recently, St. Lucie County reported that, “Since its reinstatement in 2005, St. Lucie County's Artificial Reef Program has spared more than 20,000 tons of clean concrete and steel from the landfill, while at the same time creating nearly 50 underwater habitats for marine life, fishermen and divers to enjoy. Reports from divers indicate that the reefs are providing habitat for more than 100 species of fish, including adult snapper and grouper, snook, sharks and other fish, as well as bait fish and juvenile fish.” All fantastic reasons to get behind Tug!
Arrive on time and watch as Vero Beach Mermaid real live performs from 12 until 2:00. Let the kids swim with her for a small donation to the cause. When you smell a fish fry, grab your plates and take part in a traditional Summerlin Fish Fry complete with mahi-mahi fish, hush puppies, coleslaw, baked beans, and a bottle of water. These meals are not available for pre-sale, and will only be available while supplies last, so don’t delay in getting your lunch on! Price is $15. Enjoy a bag of kettle corn from We Be Poppin FL and your proceeds go towards sinking artificial reefs.
After lunch, take part in a number of marine-centric activities including the SDI - Scuba Diving International offer of 3 SDI Wreck Diver eLearning codes which may be used for the online portion of dive training. A John Barrel surf board is up for raffle. Hang around for live music by Low Ground (performing from 3:00 - 4:30) and Whiskey Trip from 4:30 - 6:30. These 2 local bands are amazing….https://fb.me/e/WFIjgw6z And don’t forget to grab your own commemorative t-shirt or even purchase a reef ball which will float with Tug and the fishes for years to come.
