Big news in the performance boating world.

Performance Boat Center is officially back as a Cigarette Racing dealer at Lake of the Ozarks, bringing together two names that have played a major role in shaping the performance boating community over the years.

Having spent plenty of time around Cigarette boats and the people behind the brand, this partnership simply makes sense. Lake of the Ozarks is one of the most important performance boating destinations in the country, and Performance Boat Center has built a loyal following through years of customer service, technical expertise, and deep involvement in the boating lifestyle.

What's equally exciting is the return of Performance Boat Center as a key partner of the Cigarette Rendezvous. Anyone who has attended these events knows they're about much more than boats. Before I recommend any boat to a buyer, there are three things I always look at.

1. Maintenance History
A clean service history tells a story. It shows how the boat has been cared for, how proactive the owner has been, and often reveals potential issues before they become expensive surprises.

2. Ownership History
Who owned the boat matters. Some owners spare no expense on maintenance and upgrades. Others don't. Understanding the boat's history can tell you a lot about its condition today.

3. The Details You Don't See in the Listing
Engine setup, rigging quality, modifications, survey findings, overall presentation. The difference between a great boat and an average one is often found in the details.

The reality is that buying a boat isn't just about finding one you like. It's about finding one you'll still be happy with years from now.

That's why I spend as much time looking beneath the surface as I do looking at the photos.

I recently came across BOAT’s story of the 1972 London to Monte-Carlo powerboat race, and it's hard not to appreciate what those guys were doing back then.

More than 2,500 nautical miles, limited technology, unpredictable weather, and a level of uncertainty that would make most people think twice today. Yet they went anyway.

What I find most interesting isn't who won or how fast they went. It's the mindset. The willingness to push boundaries, take on challenges, and embrace the adventure.

In many ways, that's still what performance boating is all about. The boats have evolved, the technology has improved, but that feeling of heading out toward the horizon and not quite knowing what the day will bring remains the same.

Stories like these are a great reminder of why so many of us are drawn to the water in the first place.

Almost two years in the making.

What started as a vision turned into a complete refit project, with countless hours spent refining, upgrading, and dialing in every detail along the way.

Last week marked a major milestone as we crowned the project with the installation of two brand-new 700 HP engines. Seeing them in place after everything that has gone into this boat is a special feeling.

Projects like this don't happen overnight. They take patience, planning, and a lot of work behind the scenes. But that's also what makes the result so rewarding.
