You Didn’t Learn It Overnight Either.

One of the hardest parts of leadership is remembering that what feels obvious to you now probably took you years to learn.

We can’t take 10 or 20 years of experience and expect someone else to absorb it in three weeks.

People will learn. They’ll make mistakes. They’ll improve, slip backward, and improve again. Development is rarely a straight line.

That doesn’t mean lowering your standards. It means learning the difference between someone who doesn’t care and someone who doesn’t know yet.

Accountability matters. But so does patience.

Someone once had patience while you were learning, too.

They’ve had ten weeks. You’ve had ten years.
Don’t expect your years of experience from someone who is still earning theirs.

Your work ethic doesn’t just define you. It exposes the standards of the people around you.

Hard work can bring out the best and the worst in people. Some will see your drive and become inspired. Some will feel intimidated. Others may resent you because your performance forces them to look at their own.

The same happens in leadership. When one department constantly pushes forward while another does the minimum, people notice. Eventually, resentment and division follow.

The answer isn’t lowering the standard to make others comfortable. It’s creating a clear standard everyone is accountable to.

There’s a big difference between “They don’t work like me” and “They aren’t meeting the expectations of their position.”

Your strongest employee should reinforce the standard. They should never have to become the standard.

One of the greatest gifts of working in yachting is the friendships you collect around the world. 🌎⚓️

I was disappointed to miss the incredible eclipse in Spain, but a very good friend who was there sent me these photos as it was happening.

Pictures will never replace experiencing something like this in person, but there’s something pretty special about seeing the world through someone else’s lens.

So now I’m passing that moment along to all of you. ❤️

We may never meet, but beautiful moments are worth sharing. Sometimes happiness is simply seeing something incredible and thinking, someone else should see this too.

Put everything you have into the work you do. ✨

Your work is a reflection of your standards, your character, and the passion you bring into the world. When you truly care about what you’re building, it becomes more than just a job, it gives you purpose, pride, and a sense of accomplishment that money alone can’t create.

Whatever you do, leave a little piece of yourself in it. Make it something you’re proud to put your name on. 🤍

On Deck Yachting had the pleasure of being part of the High Country Charitable Foundation event in beautiful Banner Elk, North Carolina, and what an incredible evening it was! ❤️

It was truly an honor to be included in such a meaningful event and to witness a community come together with such generosity, kindness, and support. Nights like these are a wonderful reminder of the impact that can be made when people unite for a great cause.

Thank you to the High Country Charitable Foundation for allowing us to be part of such a special evening. We had an amazing time and are grateful for the opportunity to support an organization that makes such a positive difference in the community.

Here’s to giving back, building relationships, and creating lasting memories. ✨

Busy doesn’t always mean effective.
The busiest person on the team often appears to be the most valuable, but visibility and contribution aren’t always the same thing.
Great leaders look beyond activity and ask three questions:
✔️ What do I see?
✔️ What do they understand?
✔️ Can they actually do it?
Because movement is easy to fake.
Ex*****on isn’t.
Busy is visible. Effective is measurable.

⚓️⚓️The better the engineer, the less you notice them.

Not because they’re doing less, but because they’ve already solved the problem before anyone knew it existed.

Behind every smooth trip, comfortable cabin, cold drink, and seamless experience is an engineer quietly keeping it all running.

Invisible doesn’t mean unimportant. It means everything worked exactly as it should. ⚓️

And if you’d like to dive deeper into this topic, check out my latest article in Triton’s June issue.

💪⚓️📜🤸Yachting teaches you a lot about life.

How to function on 4 hours of sleep. How to smile through absolute chaos. How to pack your entire life into a suitcase. How to become best friends with people you’ve known for 48 hours. How to find anything... except the item the guest is currently asking for. 😂

It teaches patience, teamwork, problem-solving, and that no matter how carefully you plan, someone will always ask for something completely unexpected.

Honestly, no other job prepares you for life quite like yachting… and no other job gives you this many stories to tell. ⚓️😂

⚓️⚓️The strongest businesses are never built alone.

The best leaders don’t try to have all the answers. They surround themselves with great people, trust expertise, communicate openly, and work toward a shared vision.

Whether it’s yachting, hospitality, or entrepreneurship, long term success happens when ego takes a back seat to collaboration.

Because at the end of the day, success isn’t about one person doing everything. It’s about building the right team so everyone becomes stronger together. ✨
