Tread Depth Basics: The Penny Test

Winding roads and coastal showers demand reliable traction. Worn tires dramatically increase stopping distances and risk hydroplaning on slick asphalt.

How to check your tires in 30 seconds:

• Insert an ordinary penny upside down into several tread grooves across each tire, with Lincoln's head facing down.

• If the top of Lincoln's head is covered, you still have safe, adequate tread.

• If you can see the top of his head, your tread depth has reached 2/32" or less, meaning the tire must be replaced.

Checking multiple grooves across each tire also reveals uneven wear, which is an early indicator that your vehicle needs a wheel alignment.

Make sure you’re ready for wet season and order your tires today!

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage of the first responders, service members and everyday Americans who stepped forward in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Twenty-five years later, we remember not only the heartbreak of that day, but also the compassion, courage and unity that followed.

The Rotary Club of Fort Bragg joins our community and our nation in remembering those we lost and honoring all who served and sacrificed.

🇺🇸 We will never forget.

Feeling a shudder in your steering wheel or hearing a squeak when you slow down? It might not just be worn pads—your brake rotors take the brunt of stopping your vehicle.

If your brakes feel off, look out for these four rotor red flags:

> Warping: A pulsating pedal or shaking steering wheel down coastal hills caused by uneven heat cycles.

> Glazing: A mirror-like, glass sheen from extreme heat that hardens the pedal, increases stopping distance, and causes squealing.

> Lipping: A distinct, raised ridge along the outer rim. If you can catch your fingernail on it, the rotor has worn significantly deep.

> Minimum Thickness: Rotors worn below their stamped factory discard spec can't shed heat, risking severe brake fade or cracking during hard stops.

Slapping fresh brake pads onto compromised rotors ruins the new pads in a matter of weeks.

🛑 This Month at Sport Auto Center: Take $50 off complete brake service with new rotors to get your stopping power back to factory spec.

Drop by, call, or send us a message to get your rotors inspected and reserve a bay this week!

Why Coolant Breakdown Happens Long Before Your Car Overheats

Most drivers assume coolant is only there to keep an engine from running hot. But its most critical job is actually preventing internal corrosion.

Over time and continuous heat cycles, the protective chemical additives in coolant break down. Once depleted, the fluid turns mildly acidic and quietly eats away at your radiator, engine block, and heater core from the inside out. Old fluid also allows abrasive scale to build up, eroding water pump seals and causing premature leaks, all while your dashboard temperature gauge still reads completely normal.

A routine fluid exchange flushes out old contaminants and restores the active chemical protection your engine needs to avoid major repairs down the road.

Save on seasonal maintenance with $25 off any fluid service, including a cooling system flush and inspection. Give us a call or stop by to get scheduled!

Why Fresh Brake Fluid Matters More Than You Think

Ever notice a "spongy" brake pedal on winding roads or steep hills? Most drivers check their brake pads, but brake fluid often gets ignored.

Over time, brake fluid naturally absorbs moisture straight from the air. That trapped moisture lowers its boiling point—leading to dangerous brake fade on hills—and causes internal corrosion in expensive ABS components.

Signs it is time for a flush:

> Fluid is dark tea-colored instead of clear/amber

> Pedal feels mushy or travels further to the floor

> It has been 2+ years since your last fluid change

August Special: $25 Off Any Fluid Service
Keep your vehicle running smoothly before your next road trip. Take $25 off any fluid exchange through the end of the month, including brake fluid, coolant, transmission, differential, or power steering services.

Stop by for a quick fluid check or give us a call to get on the schedule!
