Hey everybody! As y'all know Carlos and I left on vacation, we arrived around 1:00pm on Wednesday. The evening we arrived I got a phone call telling me my dad fell in our driveway and was being transported to the hospital around 9:30pm. I left 7:30am the next day (Thursday ) and drove home and to NEGa in Gainesville. He had surgery finding out that he broke the bone connecting to the socket. We have been very busy dealing with hospital stuff ,family and getting his belongings together to go to rehab for 3 weeks. I am trying to catch up with AODA and trying to do this all today because tomorrow afternoon driving back to Daytona beach. I have gone thru emails and after typing this message I will go thru texts and voicemails. If I do not get back to you today when I get back into Florida tomorrow late afternoon or early evening I will keep my todo list gong. If I miss you please text me and tell me so I can make sure you are not forgotten or overlooked because that is not my intention.
Thank you so much , Carolyn

Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you for another incredible summer of Driver's Education (DrEd). After spring break week until mid August we enter the busiest part of the year for DrEd. Because of the trust you have in Alpha Omega Driving Academy (AODA) teaching your children, we have grown in the number of students we have taught every year (excluding 2020) for the past fifteen years. Thank you.

Yesterday I taught a pair of twin sisters. As I was speaking to their dad, he said, "Well, you now have taught all five of our children." Wow! Many of you have trusted us with multiple children, thank you. To say that Carolyn and I are humbled is an understatement. Knowing how much we love our children, it is incredible to us when we receive one child from parents. When it is multiple children we have taught in the same family, we may have earned your trust. Whether it is an only child we have taught, or the fifth or sixth child in the family, to be the company you have chosen to teach and drive your children is one of the highest praises and honor I believe you as parents can bestow on Chuck, Carolyn and I. Thank you

As we do every year about this time, Carolyn and I will be leaving tonight for our vacation. I will be monitoring texts, emails, voice mails and this FB page as well as scheduling students while we are gone. (I may not get back in touch with you for a couple of days) Carolyn will also be available to send certificates to those students who have completed the Joshua's Law program with AODA.

Again, thank you for another great year,

Carlos and Carolyn

Thank you for all the well wishes and prayers, we appreciate them and believe in them so very much 🩵 He will be much much better soon and back in the car with our students shortly. Again thank you!! We are blessed by y'all and we are very thankful. Carolyn

Parents and students,

This article was written by Joe Fried my best friend of nearly 45 years. Joe is considered one of the nation's top trial lawyers with the majority of his cases focusing on commercial trucking accidents. I use many of Joe's cases that he handles for other attorneys throughout our country when teaching our Dr. Ed. students in class and behind the wheel. One of Joe's cases in the state of Georgia was instrumental in Georgia becoming "Hands Free."

Carlos

THIS COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE: "When your foot goes to the brake, your eyes should go to your mirrors" and "leave yourself an out"

How many times do you find yourself stopped or moving slowly in traffic - maybe there is a work zone ahead and traffic on the highway is backed up, maybe its rush hour, maybe you are stopped at a red light or stop sign, or maybe you get in a fender bender and are stopped in the roadway. DO YOU FEEL SAFE? PLEASE REEVALUATE - IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE.

I dedicate my practice as a lawyer to handling serious truck crash cases around the country.

I have been seeing a terrible trend of devastating crashes with trucks running full speed into the rear of cars stopped or moving very slowly in traffic.

Truckers are required to keep a careful lookout ahead for traffic that may be stopped or moving slowly, but sometimes truckers are distracted or fatigued or for whatever reason not paying as close attention as they should. These crashes are devastating.

Here are some examples of cases I have handled recently.

Two cars full of young nursing students were stopped in a long line of traffic on an interstate highway in Georgia due to a crash ahead. traffic was backed up. It was dawn. They were not doing anything wrong. A tractor trailer hit them from behind at full speed. He never hit his brakes. Five beautiful young nurses died.

My client was stopped in the roadway after being involved in a minor crash with another vehicle. A loaded moving truck with an overly tired driver hit my client from the rear at full speed. He suffered terrible burn injuries and later died.

A woman was having car troubles and trying to get off the road. She was driving slowly on a highway. Hit at full speed by a speeding tractor-trailer. She is now an incomplete tetraplegic.

A family of four coming home from vacation. They were stopped in traffic in a work zone and they were hit at full speed by a tractor trailer from behind. All four - an entire family - died.

Last Friday I sat with a family grieving the loss of three family members and the injury to two others after their vehicle, stopped in a work zone on a highway was plowed into from behind.

All of these people were victims of the negligence of others. No question about that. I am working hard to advance safety technology and safety training in the trucking industry to try to minimize these kinds of crashes. And we have the technology to do so - automatic emergency braking - that if employed in the trucking industry would end more than 50% of trucking related fatal crashes. That is another story.

What I have learned from these crashes is something that I think is a hole in all of our training as drivers. We are not taught to constantly be checking our rear view or side view mirrors whenever we are stopped or slowing down. We are not taught to be constantly on the lookout for vehicles approaching from the rear. We are not taught well enough to leave ourselves an out in case the unthinkable is approaching.

Please know that I am not blaming the victims here in any way. We shouldn't have to do this, but it we should anyway because it could save our own lives and the lives of others in our vehicle.

Please tell everyone you know - from new drivers to experienced drivers. When your foot goes to the brake, check your mirrors for vehicles approaching from behind. leave yourself an out. Keep checking. Don't get complacent. Being stopped or moving slowly on a high speed roadway is always dangerous.
