After almost 2 years it is finally complete. It was a very interesting and challenging process. I am glad to have had the experience, but I doubt that I will do another one.

The fun part begins, putting everything back together.

The original 6v electrical system not changed and the headlamps were very dim, with only about 4.8v at the headlight bulbs. The headlight wiring was updated as per 256 Registry article by Ket Sodergren. Relays were installed in the headlight buckets with power wiring direct from the battery. H4 headlights purchased from England were installed. Very bright headlights now.

Original engine was strong and ran well, but needed tuning and minor repair work. Rebuilt carbs, installed new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing and resurfaced flywheel. Replaced bad valve guide seals and adjusted valves.

Polyester filler was used for final smoothing of the body. Epoxy primer was then applied and sanded. The final finish was PPG basecoat/clear coat.

The bottom of the car and floors were also primed with epoxy primer. Urethane body sealer was then used smooth out all seams. Several coats of rubberized undercoating were applied to the underside of the car with a final coat of semi gloss rustoleum spray paint. All internal surfaces which could not be painted were coated with Eastwood internal frame coating. This was applied by a small spray head on flexible tubing.

The chassis was sandblasted several times. This is the final blasting before the All Metal (bondo) work was done and the epoxy primer was applied. The blast media used was glass beads, -70 mesh and smaller. This cut fairly well, did not distort the metal and left a smooth finish which was able to be filled with just primer coat application.

Metal repairs and replacement were quite extensive. Most of the replacement metal panels are available from several vendors. I purchased most of mine from Stoddard. The quality is good and their return policy, if needed, is great.

The car was stripped down for the start of the restoration. The first item was the repair of the battery box. The rotisserie is attached at the front bumper supports on the battery box sides. Once on the rotisserie it was easy to get at the bottom to clean away undercoat and rust.

I planned on a paint job and minor repairs to the car. However it trurned out to need a total restoration.

The car was stripped down with the removal of the interior, carpet, undercoating, engine, transmission and suspension to determine the amount of rust and corrosion present. The inspection indicated much more rust and corrosion than was expected. It was turning out to be a much larger job that I anticipated. Most of the bottom of the car was in need of replacement. At an earlier date, I would guess in the early 70's, some of the floor and the longitudinals was replaced along with metal work on parts of the body. Parts of the door bottoms were also replaced.
