2017 Honda Civic | Spark Plug & Headlight Replacement

Customer came in with a slight misfire on cylinders 2 and 3 and dim headlights that were well past their prime.

🔍 Diagnosis
Verified misfire concern
Checked ignition components
Found original factory spark plugs still installed
Headlights showed heavy wear and reduced output

🔧 Service Performed
Replaced all spark plugs with NGK Iridium plugs
Replaced both headlight bulbs
Cleared fault codes and confirmed smooth engine operation

✅ Results
Misfire eliminated
Smoother idle and improved throttle response
Brighter and safer nighttime visibility

Factory spark plugs can last a long time, but “long time” doesn’t mean forever. Waiting too long often leads to misfires, reduced fuel economy, and unnecessary stress on ignition components.

Daily Service Spotlight – Alternator Replacement

Vehicle: 2015 Honda Accord (4-cyl)
Concern: Intermittent slow-start, repeated dead battery

The customer had already replaced the battery, which helped temporarily, but the issue came back a few months later. That’s usually a sign the battery isn’t the root cause.

What was done:
Load tested the battery
Load tested the starter
Load tested the alternator

Battery and starter checked out fine. The alternator was underperforming and not keeping the system charged.

Fix:
Replaced the failing alternator with a new OEM Honda unit. Charging system is now operating within spec, and the starting issue is resolved.

This is a very common repair and a good example of why proper testing matters. Throwing parts at a problem gets expensive fast. Diagnostics saves money.

If your vehicle has:
Repeated dead batteries
Dimming lights
Slow or inconsistent starts

It may be time to have the charging system checked.

This week’s repeat offender: a no-start from a dead battery. Nothing dramatic, just one of those “it was fine yesterday” situations every driver faces sooner or later.

Pulled up, tested the system and the battery had flatlined. Alternator was charging fine. Swapped in a fresh one, cleaned up the terminals, checked grounds, and she fired right up like nothing happened.

Here’s the truth: most batteries don’t die suddenly. Instead, they fade out slowly. You just don’t notice until you’re late for work or sitting in a parking lot googling “why won’t my car start.”

If your engine cranks slow, headlights dim, or you’re jump-starting more than once, don’t gamble with it. I’ll come to you, test the system, and fix it before it strands you.

Had a customer this week who swore their “little ticking noise” had been there forever. Turns out, forever ended when the timing chain tensioner decided it’d had enough of this world. Chain skipped, timing went off, and suddenly that small noise became a tow bill.

Engines talk, it’s just that most people don’t listen. A faint tick or a small rattle; they’re all warning shots before something expensive happens. Don’t wait for it to fail.

Whether it’s a weird noise, a check engine light, or just that gut feeling something’s off, let us know before it’s too late.

2012 Chevy Captiva – VVT Solenoid & Carbon Buildup Nightmare 🚗

This one rolled in misfiring, smoking, and sounding rough. The culprit? Both VVT solenoids were completely clogged, choking oil flow and throwing off timing. Pulled the intake and—yeah—those valves looked like they’d been marinating in burnt coffee grounds.

After cleaning things up, replacing both solenoids, and doing some serious carbon removal, it’s running smooth again. These Ecotec engines love to sludge up if oil changes get skipped or stretched too long—keep that oil clean and full, or it’ll get ugly fast.

2003 Toyota Highlander V6 – A/C & Drive Belt Refresh

This Highlander came in with a tired A/C system and a soundtrack of squeaky belts. The condenser was shot, the compressor was done for, and the o-rings were leaking. After replacing the condenser, compressor, and all new seals, I went ahead and installed a new belt and tensioner. These old 3.0 V6s are famous for making noise when they’re worn.

I don’t perform refrigerant evacuation or recharge myself, but if your system’s already been vacuumed, I can handle the parts replacement, sealing, and reassembly right where you’re parked.

2018 Nissan Altima – Valve Cover, Gasket, and Spark Plug Service 🚘

This Altima came in leaking oil from the valve cover gasket — which isn’t shocking, since Nissan decided to make the cover out of plastic. Once they start warping, it’s game over for sealing.

While I was in there, I replaced the spark plugs — they were overdue and pretty crusty. The new iridiums should smooth things out and help MPG a bit.

I also couldn’t ignore the front tires… they were bald enough to join the military. I pointed the customer toward a reliable local tire shop so they can get a safe set of rubber on before the next rainy day turns ugly.

This Altima came in leaking oil from the valve cover gasket. This definitely isn’t shocking since Nissan decided to make the cover out of plastic. Once they start warping it’s game over for sealing.

While I was in there, I replaced the spark plugs. They were right at the service interval and pretty crusty. The new iridiums should help smooth things out and MPG a bit.
