Part 2 of our 3 part Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services is TIRES.
Tires are important because they support your RV 24/7/365. There are some things that you want to check such as condition, date, and pressure.

CONDITION: Check for cracks, discoloration, and chunks of tire missing. It is recommended to upgrade to 10 ply or greater steel belted tires if you are going to travel with your RV. Find a quality name brand tire in 10 ply or greater for best results.

DATE: Everything has an expiration date, even your tires! You can check the date code on the side of the tire. Typically it's 4 digits, first 2 are the week of manufacturer and the last 2 are the year of manufacturer. JUST BECAUSE YOUR TRAILER IS BRAND NEW DOESN'T MEAN IT HAS BRAND NEW TIRES! (See photo).

PRESSURE: The two best things you can buy for your tires are 1- Tire pressure gauge and 2- Tire inflator air chuck. Check your tires BEFORE EVERY trip, and inflate your tires to the recommended side wall pressure. (See photo). Anything greater than 5 years is required to be replaced

REMEMBER: Your tires protect you and your family and are worth the investment to prevent catastrophic failures while traveling.

The next few weeks we are going to focus on the TOP 3 things that will ruin your RV trip before you ever start. Those are: POWER, TIRES, AND CHASSIS 12 VOLT LIGHTING.

This week let's talk 12 VOLT POWER
Why is this important? You need a minimum of 13.8 volts to operate jacks, hydraulics and slides. Without it you cannot hook up to your RV.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
Make sure that your 12 volt red master paddle switch is in the "ON' position, if equipped

Check your battery cables and ends to make they are securely connected and free of corrosion

Save your battery when not in use by completely disconnecting the positive cable from the battery

If you still have issues invest in a battery pack aka jump box.
If you deal with multiple RV units or power equipment you may want to invest in a more permanent jumper cable setup on your tow vehicle.

Regardless you need power for the simple things like hooking up to your RV. Don't let power stop you from enjoying the RV camping lifestyle.
