In demolition derby, we know what happens when steel meets steel. Cars are built, reinforced, and prepared to take a beating but no amount of bracing can compare to the courage shown by the men and women who ran toward danger on September 11, 2001.
That day, our nation was struck without warning. While countless people fought to get to safety, firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and ordinary citizens moved toward the destruction to help others. They faced unimaginable danger with strength, sacrifice, and determination.
A derby car can be rebuilt. A bent frame can be replaced. A crushed hood can be straightened or cut away. But the lives lost that day can never be restored, and the families changed forever can never return to the way things were.
Demolition derby is built around competition, impact, and resilience but September 11 reminds us that true strength is not measured by how much damage something can withstand. It is measured by the courage to protect others, the willingness to stand together, and the determination to keep moving forward after tragedy.
As we remember September 11, let the sound of steel colliding remind us of something greater than competition: the strength of unity, the courage of first responders, and the value of every moment with the people we love.
Today, we honor the lives lost, the families affected, the heroes who answered the call, and the spirit of a nation that refused to be broken.
We will never forget.
