Throwback Thursday: The inaugural running of the Tri-Western 100 at Redwood Acres Raceway on September 23, 1990 was the first major open competition late model race held on the pavement. It was also the first year of the Tri-Western 300 series, a yearly three-race championship that featured the top late model open competition drivers in the west.

This race saw one of the most memorable and scary incidents in track history when the throttle on Oregon driver Don Eyerly's car stuck going into the first turn sending him into and over the wall. Thankfully, he was okay.

Around 40 cars and drivers attempted to start the feature event with Randy Olson winning over Wayne Crayford, Chris Gwinn, Dennis Shaha and Mike McKeown.
