🎉 FINALLY FRIDAY!! 🎉

Well, I’ve officially survived my SECOND week working at Butchs Body! 😂

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

🔧 Every car part has approximately 17 different names.

📞 Calling for parts requires knowing what you’re looking for. Apparently, “that black plastic thingy” isn’t always helpful.

📝 Butch can look at a car and know exactly what needs done. I can look at the same car and wonder what half the pieces are called.

🤦‍♀️ Joe has perfected the art of looking at me without actually answering my question.

And somehow, after two weeks of this…

THEY STILL LET ME INTO THE BUILDING. 🤣🤣

At this point, I’m not sure if I’m learning the business or testing the limits of their patience.

🚧 WHAT TO DO WEDNESDAY! 🚧

Fresh asphalt is great for our roads… but not always so great for our vehicles!

With roadwork happening around southeast Kansas, let’s talk about what that fresh pavement can do to your car.

🚗 Tar on your paint? Fresh road tar can stick to your lower doors, rocker panels, and wheel wells.

🪨 Loose rocks and gravel? They can chip your paint, especially when vehicles are traveling too fast through construction areas.

⚠️ Driving through fresh asphalt? Follow posted signs and flaggers, slow down, and leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle ahead.

So what should you do if you find tar on your car?

✅ Wash the affected area gently.

✅ Use a tar remover specifically labeled safe for automotive paint, following the directions.

❌ Don’t scrape it off with a razor blade or scrub it with anything abrasive!

❌ Don’t use gasoline, paint thinner, or other harsh solvents to remove it.

And remember, tar stuck to your paint and actual paint damage are two different things! Some spots just need proper cleaning, while rock chips or scratches may need repair.

🚗💨 HAPPY MONDAY!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by your Ford Explorer. 🙋‍♀️🤣

Because apparently, my 2017 Explorer decided it no longer needed its windshield trim and launched it into the great unknown while I was driving down the highway.

No warning. No goodbye. Just ✨YEET✨.

One minute I’m minding my own business, the next my vehicle is shedding parts at highway speeds.

Thankfully, one of the perks of being part of a family-owned body shop is knowing a couple of guys who can put your car back together when it decides to start falling apart. We can fix yours up too!

Well, folks… we made it to Friday! 🎉

It’s officially been my first week learning the ropes at Butchs Body, and I’m happy to report that:

🔧 I learned a few things.

📝 I asked approximately 47,000 questions.

🤯 I only had ONE minor meltdown. (We’re not discussing it. 😂)

Butch and Joe haven’t fired me yet.

And somehow, we’re all still speaking to each other! 🤣

The weather’s a little chillier today, which means the guys might actually get to work without melting for once. Now if we could just figure out how to make the paperwork as enjoyable as the cooler temperatures…

All jokes aside, it’s been a week of learning, laughing, and realizing there’s a WHOLE lot more to running a body shop than I ever imagined!

Here’s to surviving week one!

🔧 WHAT TO DO WEDNESDAY! 🚗

Your car’s paint is peeling. Now what?!

You know that spot on your hood, roof, or trunk that looks cloudy, flaky, or like your car is shedding its skin?

Yeah… that’s probably not going to buff out.

So what’s actually happening, and what can you do about it?

☀️ 1. It’s probably clear coat failure!

Your vehicle’s clear coat is the protective layer over the colored paint. Over time, sun exposure, weather, and age can cause that protective layer to break down, leaving behind those cloudy, faded, or peeling spots.

🎨 2. “Can’t you just spray some new clear coat over it?”

We get asked this one A LOT!

Unfortunately, no. Once clear coat starts peeling, you can’t simply spray a fresh layer over the damaged area and expect it to last.

The failing clear coat needs to be properly removed, and the surface prepared before refinishing. Depending on the condition of the paint underneath, the panel may also need new color before the clear coat is applied.

Think of it like painting over peeling paint on your house. If what’s underneath is already coming off, the new layer isn’t going to hold up either! 😂

🧽 3. Wax and polish aren’t going to fix it either!

Wax can help protect paint that’s still in good condition, but once the clear coat has started peeling, no amount of wax or polishing will put it back together.

🚗 4. Does this mean your entire vehicle needs repainted?

Not necessarily!

Depending on how extensive the damage is, refinishing the affected panels may be an option. Every vehicle is different, and the condition of the existing paint plays a big part in determining the best repair.

🔧 5. Don’t wait until it gets worse!

Once the protective coating fails, the paint underneath becomes more vulnerable to sun exposure, moisture, and further deterioration.

The bottom line?

Properly fixing peeling clear coat involves more than just spraying another layer on top. There’s preparation, removal of failing material, and sometimes repainting involved to get a finish that’s going to hold up.

So whether your hood has seen one too many Kansas summers or your roof is starting to look a little rough, stop by and let us take a look!

Well, folks… things are about to get interesting around here. 😂

After spending all this time running the page and talking about what the guys do, I’ve decided it’s time to actually learn what goes on behind the scenes!

Today is my first day learning the ropes at the shop. 🔧

Will I be helpful? Hopefully.

Will I ask approximately 437 questions? Absolutely.

Will Butch and Joe question their decision to let me loose in the shop? Probably before lunch. 😂

All jokes aside, I’m excited to learn more about the work that goes into getting your vehicles back on the road and hopefully become another set of helping hands around here.

Wish me luck… or maybe wish Butch and Joe luck. They’re probably going to need it. 🤣

🔧 WHAT TO DO WEDNESDAY

You were in an accident, filed the claim, and the insurance estimate came back…

And you’re looking at it thinking, “There’s NO way that’s enough to fix my car.” 😳

First: don’t panic.

An initial insurance estimate is just that, an initial estimate. Sometimes additional damage isn’t visible until the vehicle is taken apart.

That’s where a supplement can come in. If additional accident-related damage or necessary repairs are found during the repair process, the shop can document it and work with the insurance company regarding the additional repairs.

So don’t assume you’re stuck paying the difference just because the first estimate looks low.

And remember, you have the right to choose the repair shop you want. You don’t have to use a particular shop simply because an insurance company suggests one.

Insurance paperwork can be confusing enough without trying to become a collision-repair expert overnight. 😂
