With Enid Public Schools back in session this week, we are encouraging all drivers to be more aware and vigilant.
We ask everyone to be aware of, and obey, all school zones. Children will be crossing streets in those areas and drivers need to keep their attention focused on the road.
While children should be using crosswalks, their excitement in the early days of class may have them crossing as soon as they can.
So please, put down cellphones, breakfast sandwiches and other distractions common in your morning commute. Keep your FULL attention on the road.
Drivers should also obey all school bus stop signs when they are picking up and dropping off children.
While students have been taught to look both ways before crossing, they don’t always do so. Not heeding a school bus stop sign can result in a hefty citation.
Drivers should expect delays in and around school zones, should allow extra time to reach their destinations and adjust their schedules accordingly.
We will be patrolling school zones as students return to class and enforcement actions will be taken against violators.
We ask everyone to be courteous to one another in and around schools, especially in the morning and afternoon.
Please understand it may take some time for everyone to get back into the swing of things but together we can make sure everyone gets to their destinations safely.
