Here's a few of my pet peeves. When your bringing your bike to your mechanics here's a few rules you should follow.
1. If getting your tires changed, please empty your saddlebags of all your crap. Your mechanic lifts enough heavy stuff all day and doesn't want or need to lift off your bags with 40lbs of unnecessary items in them or move everything to get to the bags releases. Respect
2. If your getting work done that requires removing the fuel tank don't stop on the way and fill the tank with fuel. Again it's very heavy and he doesn't need or want to lift a tank weighing 50+lbs. Respect
3. When you pull up to your choice of mechanics garage don't park in front of the shop door. He more than likely has a bike on the lift and will need to move your bike out of the way, remove the current job off the lift then put your bike on the lift. Respect
4. Please realize that your small bike shop doesn't stock 1,000's of tire. They typically order them as needed and can't compete with the JP Cycles, Dennis Kirk, Tire Rack.com companies pricing. And also realize that if you purchase online tires your mechanic will more than likely charge more to change them as they are losing the small amount of markup they typically make on the parts. 5. Most shops have their hours cleanly defined. Don't call or text outside of those hours. Most small shops work their tails of to get your bikes fixed and deserve their down time as much as you do. Respect
6. All small shop thoroughly enjoy talking with customers but understand time is money. If you want to stand around and visit for hours your taking time away from them completing a job and in turn now your job is going to take longer also. Get in, get out.
By all means please support you private small shops. You will definitely get more personalized service from them but be respectful and understanding.
