After holding off as long as possible, we've made the difficult decision to begin charging a 3% processing fee on all invoices paid by credit card.

For years, Auto Details has absorbed the rising costs associated with merchant services because we never wanted to pass those expenses on to our customers. Unfortunately, those costs have continued to increase to a point where we can no longer shoulder them ourselves.

As many of you know, we compete every day with online retailers. In most cases, we match online pricing whenever possible. If we simply increased our prices across the board to cover these fees, we would often end up priced higher than online sellers, making it even more difficult for a local small business to compete.

Beginning immediately, a 3% processing fee will be added to all credit card transactions. There is NO processing fee for payments made by cash or check.

I hate having to make this change, but it has become necessary to continue providing the products, services, and customer support that you have come to expect from us.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, your loyalty, and your continued support of our locally owned small business. Thank you for helping us continue serving the community we've called home since 1978.

Allow me to climb up on my old man soapbox for a minute... (hops up with one leg 😁)

There are a variety of ways to contact us: phone call, email, Facebook Messenger, or simply stopping into the store.

When you call and say, "I want my car detailed," "I need running boards," or "I want window tint," we're going to ask questions about your vehicle. What cab size? What bed length, leather or cloth seats, etc., etc.? Not because we're being difficult, but because we want to make sure you're getting the product or service that best fits your needs. That's how you create happy customers and stay in business for nearly 50 years.

Back in 1978, when Auto Details first opened, you had two options: call us on a landline or stop in. Fast forward to today, and apparently, people hate talking to other people.

The newest trend? Google AI phone calls.

The AI calls and asks questions like, "How much is detailing?"

Well, Kyle... that depends.

Vehicle size. Condition. Level of cleaning desired. How many messy kids have turned the back seat into a biohazard zone? There are a lot of factors.

When two humans talk, I can ask follow-up questions and figure out exactly what you need. I can't ask a robot how many decades it's been since you washed your car, and I definitely can't inspect your vehicle through a fiber optic cable.

These calls used to be rare. Now we're getting 4-5 of them a week.

We don't bite. We're nice people. As far as we know, we don't have any communicable diseases. Your parents raised you better than this. Use your words.

AI has a time and a place. Getting a quote for your vehicle isn't one of them. I contacted a business the other day about a quote, left a voicemail message and recieved an AI-generated text message response that made zero sense. I moved on to the next guy for a quote, who responded with a real human interaction.

Today is the anniversary of Gary's death, the original owner of Auto Details.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him. He taught me so much over the years about hard work, loyalty, and how to run this business. So much of what we do every single day at Auto Details can be credited to Gary.

I’m incredibly grateful for everything Gary and Diane created back in 1978. What started as Tidy Car became something much bigger. Our reputation, our love for Elyria, and caring about people started with Gary, and I’m proud to carry on what he started.
