Hunting season puts your ATV or UTV through some rough conditions—cold mornings, mud, moisture, brush, gear, and plenty of time getting in and out of the seat.

Before you head into the mountains, take a few minutes to inspect your seat for **cracks, torn seams, loose vinyl, exposed foam, or other damage**. Small problems can quickly turn into a full seat recover once water and dirt get into the foam.

📸 **Need an Upholstery Repair Estimate? Better Photos = A Better Estimate.**

Yesterday’s blog covers a simple way to help me give you a more accurate estimate before you ever bring your project into the shop: **take the right photos of the damage.**

Whether it’s a boat seat, vehicle seat, ATV/UTV seat, motorcycle seat, furniture, or another upholstery project, clear photos help me see the **overall condition, damaged area, seams, foam, surrounding material, and construction details** that can affect the repair.

A few good photos can save time, reduce guesswork, and help us figure out whether a repair or replacement makes the most sense.

**Sunbrella vs. Nylon Boat Covers in Southern Utah**

Southern Utah is hard on boat covers. Between **intense UV exposure, summer heat, wind, dust, and sudden storms**, the material you choose can make a big difference in how well your boat stays protected.

**Sunbrella marine canvas** is my preferred choice for long-term outdoor protection. It’s a solution-dyed acrylic fabric designed to handle heavy sun exposure, resist fading, breathe better than many coated fabrics, and hold its shape well when properly fitted. That makes it especially well suited for boats stored outdoors around **Lake Powell and Southern Utah**.

**Nylon covers** can be lighter and less expensive, which can make them useful for temporary protection or short-term storage. But nylon generally isn’t my first choice for a custom cover that will spend years exposed to Southern Utah sun. Extended UV exposure and heat can shorten its life, and lighter materials can be more prone to stretching, flapping, or wear in strong winds.

For a boat that lives outside, the cheapest cover isn’t always the least expensive option over time. A properly fitted cover built from quality marine fabric can help protect your upholstery, flooring, electronics, and interior from the elements.

**How to Clean Sunbrella Marine Canvas**

Keeping your Sunbrella marine canvas clean is one of the easiest ways to help it look better and last longer.

For routine cleaning, start by brushing off loose dirt and debris. Then rinse the canvas with clean water and wash it using a **mild soap mixed with lukewarm water**. Use a soft-bristle brush to gently work the solution into the fabric, then rinse thoroughly and let it **air dry completely**.

For heavier stains or mildew, Sunbrella fabric can usually handle a stronger cleaning solution, but always rinse the material well afterward and avoid leaving soap residue behind.

A few important tips:

* Avoid harsh scrubbing that can damage the fabric surface.
* Don’t put marine canvas away while it is wet.
* Make sure the canvas is completely dry before storing or covering the boat.
* Clean bird droppings, food, tree sap, and other contaminants as soon as possible.
* Periodic cleaning helps prevent dirt from becoming deeply embedded in the fabric.

Taking a little time to maintain your canvas can help preserve its appearance, water resistance, and overall life.
