A DIY brake caliper rebuild can sometimes introduce an unexpected issue, especially when the wrong piston seal compound is used.

If the seal material isn’t heat-compatible, the caliper may begin to drag as temperatures rise. This doesn’t always show up immediately during normal driving, which makes it tricky to diagnose.

Over time, that drag can subtly alter braking force between wheels, creating a temporary brake bias shift. The result? The vehicle may pull during hard braking, even though everything seems fine during light stops.

This is often misdiagnosed as an alignment problem, but in many cases, the real cause is hydraulic imbalance or uneven caliper response under heat load.
