Pontiac's answer to this was the Grand Am. Born from a mix of the Grand Prix's luxury options and performance options from the Trans Am, the Grand Am was built to compete against these ever popular luxury performance coupes.

For as long as the "Big Three" American automotive companies have been around, there has been a (horse)power struggle between them. During the horsepower war of the 1960's, each manufacturer was trying to produce the muscle car with the highest horsepower and the quickest 1/4 mile time. Thanks to modern technology and the American need for excessive horsepower, the battle to produce to the fastest and highest horsepower pony car is very much still alive. Thanks to this level of competitiveness, Dodge decided to set a very high bar with the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon; the very first purpose built drag car with a VIN # and covered under the manufacturer warranty.

Between the 1967 and 1968 model years, Ford noticed that California was selling more Mustangs than any other state in the United States. To reward their California customers for all of the great sales, Ford wanted to give them their very own special edition Mustang which became the GT/CS California Special and was based on the 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang prototype. Roughly 40 years later, Ford reintroduced the California Special package for the 2007 model year to commemorate these very special Mustangs.
