International Roadcheck starts today May 14th and goes through the 16th, this is the largest targeted enforcement effort aimed at commercial motor vehicles. Over the course of the next 72 hours, approximately 15 commercial vehicles will undergo inspection every minute. It’s imperative for motor carriers must prepare to avoid being included among the statistics of violations uncovered during this year’s Roadcheck.

Law enforcement will conduct inspections on commercial motor vehicles and drivers at various locations including weigh stations, temporary sites, and through mobile patrols to ensure compliance with both federal and state regulations.

This year's Roadcheck will focus on tractor protection systems, as well as controlled substance and alcohol possession or use. Additionally, there will be additional emphasis on drivers that are prohibited within the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse database.

The focus on tractor protection systems aims to raise awareness among drivers, motor carriers, and technicians regarding critical components; the tractor protection valve, trailer supply valve, and anti-drain back valve, which may often be overlooked during routine vehicle inspections. To assist drivers and motor carriers in a proactive assessment and maintaining these components, the CVSA has provided an inspection report outlining proper steps to check the tractors’ protection system.

The issue of controlled substance and alcohol possession and use remains a significant concern, with the number of prohibited drivers listed in the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse steadily increasing. This ongoing trend poses a threat to all motorists on the roadways.

This year's International Roadcheck serves as a reminder for motor carriers to clear established policies regarding controlled substances and alcohol possession or use. Furthermore, it's critical for motor carriers to regularly query drivers in the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to verify that each driver is not in a prohibited status. Commercial drivers must adhere strictly to their company's guidelines and refrain from possessing, using, or being under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances while on duty. Inspectors will be vigilant in identifying and addressing any violations uncovered during inspections.

Also, by focusing on the tractor protection systems, Roadcheck aims to increase awareness for drivers, motor carriers, technicians and enforcement personnel of these critically important vehicle components.
