Fresh out of Art Center, our guest walked up behind a stranger tinkling a set of keys and asked, "Are those the keys to a Porsche?" Turns out it was legendary Porsche design chief Tony Lapine — and minutes later they were flying through the hills behind Pasadena in a bright red 928.

Lapine offered him a job on the spot.

He said no.

Instead he headed to Munich to design under Jay Mays at Audi, right in the middle of the Vorsprung durch Technik era — turning an old Renault dealership into one of the coolest studios in the business.
