π§ TECH TIP TUESDAY: YOUR BRAKE FLUID COULD BE PUTTING YOUR BRAKES AT RISK! π¨
Your brakes might feel perfectly fine today, but what's happening inside your brake lines? π
Here's something many drivers don't realize: **brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, even in a sealed braking system.** That moisture can lower the fluid's boiling point and contribute to corrosion inside expensive brake components.
π‘ Why should you care?
When your brakes get hot from repeated or heavy braking, moisture-contaminated brake fluid can increase the risk of the fluid overheating. In severe conditions, this can reduce braking performance when you need it most.
π§ Why consider a brake fluid flush?
β
Helps remove old, moisture-contaminated fluid.
β
Helps protect internal brake components from corrosion.
β
Helps maintain proper braking performance.
β
Gives us an opportunity to inspect your brake fluid and braking system.
π
How often should you change your brake fluid?
It depends on your vehicle's manufacturer recommendations and the condition of the fluid. Many vehicles call for periodic brake fluid service, sometimes every 2β3 years. Check your owner's manual for the recommended interval.
π¨ Important reminder: If your brake pedal suddenly feels soft or spongy, your brake warning light comes on, or your braking performance changes, have the system inspected promptly. A fluid flush alone may not solve the problem.
Your brakes are too important to overlook. A little preventative maintenance can help protect your vehicle and, more importantly, the people riding in it.
