Once upon a time there were moonshiners, fast cars and tracks like Greenville Pickens Speedway. 🏁

By 1971, Richard Petty was already a giant in stock car racing and there he was, racing on this historic half-mile.

Listen to the announcer. Listen to how they talked about him. Then look at where he’s racing.

CLEMSON UNIVERSITY — I’M PUBLICLY ASKING YOU TO STEP UP FOR GREENVILLE PICKENS SPEEDWAY. 🐅🏁

We finally have a signed purchase agreement and a real opportunity to save this historic track. So I have to ask:

Where is Clemson?

The connection is already there. CU-ICAR is helping educate the next generation of automotive engineers. Clemson Tiger Racing gives students hands-on motorsports experience. Former Clemson players Landon Walker and Tanner Muse have taken their talents from Death Valley to NASCAR pit road.

And Greenville Pickens Speedway is right here in Clemson’s backyard.

Coach Danny Ford has stood at this speedway and spoken about what it means to this community.

Imagine Clemson students using this historic facility for engineering, motorsports, research, internships and real-world experience — while introducing kids to STEM in a place where they can actually SEE it come alive.

I’m not simply asking Clemson to write a check.

I’m asking Clemson to come to the table.

Let’s talk sponsorship. Funding. Grants. CU-ICAR. Clemson Tiger Racing. STEM. Research. Student opportunities.

I’ve spent three years fighting to get Greenville Pickens Speedway to this point.

Clemson, help us get it across the finish line. 🏁

CLEMSON UNIVERSITY — I’M PUBLICLY ASKING YOU TO STEP UP FOR GREENVILLE PICKENS SPEEDWAY. 🐅🏁

For three years, I have fought to save one of the most historically significant racetracks in South Carolina. Now that we finally have a signed purchase agreement and an opportunity to preserve it, I have to ask a question:

Where is Clemson University?

This isn’t a random connection.

Clemson’s CU-ICAR is right here in Greenville, educating the next generation in automotive engineering and technology.

Clemson has Clemson Tiger Racing, where students get hands-on experience building, maintaining and RACING real cars, learning everything from engineering to pit crew operations.
Clemson has produced athletes who have literally transitioned from Death Valley to pit road.

Former Clemson offensive lineman Landon Walker went on to become a NASCAR pit crew member with Hendrick Motorsports.
And now former Clemson National Championship safety Tanner Muse has made the transition into NASCAR pit crew work as well.

The connection between Clemson, automotive engineering, motorsports and NASCAR is already there.

And Greenville Pickens Speedway is sitting right here in Clemson’s backyard.

Coach Danny Ford himself stood at an event supporting this speedway and said what Greenville Pickens Speedway means to this community.

So I’m asking Clemson University publicly:

Why aren’t we working together to save it?

Imagine what could happen if Clemson became part of this mission.

A historic racetrack could become a living laboratory for automotive engineering.
Students could gain real-world experience in motorsports, vehicle dynamics, race operations, technology and engineering.
Children could be introduced to STEM through programs that make engineering exciting and tangible.
Clemson Tiger Racing could have another connection to an actual historic racing facility practically in its own backyard.

And together, we could preserve a piece of South Carolina and American motorsports history instead of watching it disappear.
I’m not asking Clemson to simply write a check. I’m asking Clemson to come to the table.

Let’s talk about funding.
Let’s talk about sponsorship.
Let’s talk about grants.
Let’s talk about CU-ICAR.
Let’s talk about STEM.
Let’s talk about Clemson Tiger Racing.
Let’s talk about research, internships and student opportunities.
Let’s talk about what a Clemson partnership with Greenville Pickens Speedway could look like.

Because if Clemson believes in automotive innovation, hands-on education, motorsports and strengthening the Upstate community, I cannot think of a more natural opportunity than helping preserve Greenville Pickens Speedway.
I’ve spent three years fighting to get this track to this point.

Clemson, I’m asking you to help us get it across the finish line.

Short tracks like Greenville Pickens Speedway are the backbone of stock car racing’s history, but many of them haven’t survived against developers looking to turn old racetracks into warehouses and industrial parks. Look at Auto Club Speedway, for example.

I love listening to older people from back in the day. He raced at Greenville Pickens Speedway and was also in the first televised flag to flag nascar race in 1971 here. People like this know history is important and why Greenville Pickens is so important .

These are the people that amp me up to push harder to make sure this track gets restored and reopened .

You can help by:

•sharing all the posts
•commenting on the posts
•liking the posts
•tagging businesses like Coca-Cola and Oracle Red Bull Racing , businesses that have been known to be involved in racing . Tag people in NASCAR as well. 20 people might not change anything, but thousands definitely will.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned the last 3 years that I can share with you- “there’s power in the people”!
