These numbers are truly scary. I am sure a lot of those could of been avoided.

Statewide, there were 846 fatal collisions on highways in 2012. In those wrecks, 899 people died, including 98 pedestrians, 15 bicyclists and 79 motorcyclists.

In total, 204 fatal collisions in 2012 involved the suspected use of alcohol, officials said.

Did you know :

Collisions between automobiles and deer are responsible for approximately 150 fatalities and about $1.1 billion in property damage every year in the USA, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In fall and winter, when the animals mate, they pay less attention to traffic than some drivers

Just in N.C. The UNC Highway Safety Research Center reported that there were 15,000 accidents involving deer and nine people were killed trying to avoid a collision in 2004.

Traffic accidents involving deer have nearly doubled over the past 10 years, a new study by researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill revealed.

A tip for you now that is it getting colder:
Before winter hits, check your antifreeze/coolant. Top it off before you see the warning light. Check your owner’s manual to determine whether or not you are due for a flush. If you do need a flush, have it done. Make sure that you have the right product for your car, as well as for the conditions. This is especially important if you have just made the move to a colder climate. You might need to upgrade your antifreeze/coolant to be able to handle the frigid conditions.

Did you know that:

If you happen to see a gasoline tanker filling the tanks at your local gas station, come back another day or go to a different station. As the station’s underground tanks are being filled, the turbulence can stir up sediment. Sediment in your gas can clog fuel filters and fuel injectors, causing poor performance and possibly necessitating repairs.

Now that it is starting to get hot, here is a spring/summer car tip for you:

Wintertime is notorious for dead batteries and early morning jumpstarts. But the truth is that hot weather is even tougher on your battery.

Summer heat can speed up the chemical reaction inside a battery, causing the battery to be overcharged. This can dramatically shorten the lifespan of your battery. Heat can also damage the battery by evaporating internal battery fluid.

The best way to keep your battery running smoothly is to keep it clean. Regularly detach the battery cables and wipe off the terminals. Make sure the battery is strapped down tightly and that all connections are secure.

If you suspect that your battery is being overcharged or isn't holding a charge well, take it to a service shop where they can run a quick battery inspection. And if you need to replace the battery, make sure that it's the right battery type for your specific make and model of car.
