Safety is our number one priority. If you smell gas in your home, you should always immediately follow these six steps:
- No flames or sparks
- Leave the area immediately
- Shut off the gas
- Report the leak
- Do not return to the area
- Get your system checked

If you own your own propane tank to heat your home, it’s vital that it’s placed in a safe place. A 500 gallon tank should be placed 10 feet away from any insured building, as well as lot line. A 1000 gallon tank need to be 25 feet away from insured buildings and lot lines. Both size tanks need to be 25 feet away from septic tanks and open flame sources.
