Five businesses. Five Detroit neighborhoods. $330,000 invested in what’s coming next.

From new restaurants and fresh grocery options to creative spaces and neighborhood gathering places, the Motor City Match Round 32 awardees are bringing new ideas, experiences and investment to communities across Detroit.

Round 32 Cash awardees include:

🍝 Cash Only Bistro | $75,000 | Morningside
🇵🇭 Calamansi | $60,000 | Central Southwest
🛒 La Altena Supermercado | $85,000 | Springwells
🎥 The Creative Union | $50,000 | Milwaukee Junction
☕ Vander Cafe | $60,000 | Medbury Park

Beyond the five Cash awards, Round 32 also supported 35 entrepreneurs through Motor City Match’s Plan, Develop and Design tracks, providing business services, training and one-on-one advising to help move their businesses forward.

Since 2015, Motor City Match has awarded 2,276 businesses, with 209 now open and another 71 under construction. The program has awarded $21 million in grants, helping leverage another $119 million in investment across Detroit.

Twelve years of work, persistence and a vision for what a vacant building could become. Today, Johnnie Meeks officially opened the doors to The Ideal Rental Space. 🎉

Located at 2039 E. Seven Mile Road in Detroit’s Nolan neighborhood, the new 1,900-square-foot event venue is Motor City Match’s 209th neighborhood ribbon cutting.

Johnnie purchased the building in 2014 and spent more than a decade renovating it, largely with her own money and hands, along with help from family, friends and community members. A $50,000 Motor City Match grant helped her close the final gap, funding two ADA-accessible bathrooms, a new HVAC system and parking lot improvements.

Now, The Ideal Rental Space is ready to welcome up to 114 guests for weddings, showers, birthdays, meetings, community gatherings and more.

Congratulations to Johnnie and her family on reaching the finish line and bringing a new place to gather, celebrate and make memories to the Nolan neighborhood! 🎊
