The Northern Lights on the Oregon Coast? Yes, please! 😍✨ There's a chance we might catch them this Friday, October 9, so keep your eyes on the skies and fingers crossed for clear weather!

🌌 THE NORTHERN LIGHTS COULD BE COMING TO THE OREGON COAST

Look north this Friday night, October 9 👀

A geomagnetic storm is forecast to develop, and if it reaches the strength currently predicted, the aurora could potentially be visible much farther south than usual — possibly putting the Oregon Coast in the viewing zone.

Tonight isn’t looking promising, but Friday night is the night I’ll be watching closely.

🌊 Of course, there’s one very Oregon Coast problem: clouds and fog. Even a spectacular solar storm won’t help us if we can’t see the sky.

If conditions line up, get somewhere dark, away from the lights, with a clear view toward the north.
📱 And bring your phone or camera — sometimes the camera can capture colors that are difficult to see with the naked eye.

✨ I’ll be watching this one closely. If the forecast holds, Friday night could be one of those Oregon Coast nights you don’t want to miss.

🌊 The Depoe Bay seawall offers one of the most up-close experiences you can have when watching King Tides on the Oregon Coast. There is nothing quite like standing along the seawall and watching the Pacific Ocean unleash its power just feet away.

The seawall provides a barrier between visitors and the ocean, allowing you to experience the incredible power of the waves from a unique vantage point. As long as you stay behind the wall and away from areas where waves can wash over, you can enjoy the view from a much safer location.

⚠️ But please, never climb over the seawall or venture onto the rocks for a closer look. People have lost their lives after being swept into the ocean while trying to get closer to the waves. Sneaker waves and powerful surf can be deadly, and even experienced coastal visitors can be caught off guard.

Even behind the seawall, stay alert and keep your distance from waves that crash over the top.

King Tides are an incredible sight, and Depoe Bay offers a front-row seat to the power of the Pacific. Come enjoy the spectacular views, take your photos and videos, but please put your safety first.

The ocean is beautiful, but it deserves our respect.🫡
