She lives!

This project started out with a running, but wrecked 87 GT and a nearly identical non-running, but not wrecked 87GT. I swapped almost everything mechanical over.....what a project! Not sure I ever want to do that again.

Anyway, I got it running on Friday, but my body decided to fail a little bit and I spent the weekend in bed. Nevertheless, it runs and the cooling system is bled and everything works (well...everything on the car ๐Ÿ™‚).

I reinstalled the rear bumper and taillights today. All that's left are the shocks & struts (waiting for new ones to arrive), bleeding of the brakes and some misc stuff. Some of that misc stuff is the installation of a factory subwoofer system. The old car had one, but the "new" car didn't.

Everything should be finished this weekend.

Whoops! One too many ugga-duggas. ๐Ÿ˜

Thankfully it came right out with some help from the easy-out.

Even with this little setback, I have the front suspension and AC system installed.

It's all downhill from here. The clutch line, heater lines & brake lines will go in tomorrow. Then it's the gas tank and all the fuel lines from the tank to the fuel rail, coolant hoses, etc, etc.

The 87 GT chassis was spared from the crusher. A local guy (who has purchased other chassis from me) took it for a future project.

He has some wild ideas for these and I really hope he finds the time to start on them.

I am now in the process of installing a complete front suspension, brake hardlines, clutch line, complete AC system & heater hardlines from the wrecked GT over to the nearly identical replacement Fiero.

I'm little behind on this, but in my defense it's no fun wrenching in 100* temps. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway....I just wanted to let everyone who was apoplectic about the old wrecked chassis getting recycled know that it has been saved and will (one day) get resurrected.

Ready for the crusher!

I know it looks OK, but it honestly has frame damage and isn't worth fixing. The rear half is in good shape, although the trunk is pushed in pretty good and I dinged the driver floorboard winching it onto the trailer

I'm hauling it away tomorrow morning (Wednesday Aug. 19th) and expect to get roughly $40 for it. If anyone wants it and can pick it up ASAP I'll sell it for the same $40....title included. I can deliver within a 50 mile radius of Denver, CO....just cover the fuel and have some help available to get it off the trailer.

Yep...there's a big car show here in Denver at one of the oldest cemeteries in the city. Pretty cool!

She's (almost) completely stripped! I just need to drop the engine cradle (no engine) and this wrecked 87 GT will be off to the scrapyard.

Next week will be all about fixing up an identical 87 GT with many of the parts from this wrecked one.

Should be fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm a little behind on things, but today was remove front suspension day (along with the brake lines as a unit).

I think I 'm going to finish stripping the wrecked 87GT and haul off the carcass so I have more room to work in the good 87 GT.

So....my plan of being done in a week is over. I think I'll be about 75% finished on Sunday though, so not too bad.

Both the 87 GT's are back at my house. Now to make one out of two.

For context, the one on the right was hit in the front. It looks OK, but it did extensive space frame damage.

The one on the left is a 49K mile example that spun a bearing 13 years ago and has been parked ever since.

I am swapping over almost everything mechanical from the wrecked car to the nicer one. This includes the entire rear end (engine/trans, cradle, brakes, etc.); entire front end (crossmember, suspension, brakes, radiator, etc); entire fuel system (tank, all lines, new pump & filters); clutch hydraulic line & cylinders; entire AC system (all hard lines, etc.).

Lots of work! I hope to be done with it in a week. Wish me luck!

What sort of nonsense is this!?! ๐Ÿ˜„
