A new reproduction announcement. My son, Eric Shope is offering Gremlin-Spirit chassis subframe connectors under his brand: Corner Carver Solutions. If interested I can get you in touch:
I’m sure some have seen progress pictures of mine and my father’s Blue ’78 Gremlin GT resto-mod project.
One of the major custom components so far were these CAD-designed Subframe connectors we made in-house. Much like others out there, we weren’t pleased with the option(s) publicly available. We wanted to make our own that would do a better job both structurally and visually would blend in to the factory work like it belonged there. The kit itself fit with very minimal massage, required some flattening of the floor pans in a few areas
Originally, we only planned to do the one set for my own car, but after some discussion, we’ve decided to make it available for sale for the AMC community!
Introducing Corner Carver Solutions’ first unique product:
1970-1978 Gremlin & 1979-1983 Spirit Subframe Connectors.
$395.00 before shipping.
A product of modern 3D scanning techniques, experienced CAD designing, and machine cut and bent from a local machine shop here in South-Eastern Pennsylvania out of 12ga steel- the same gauge as the unibody frames on the car. Due to the design process, there are a few small flat weld-in pieces that come with the connectors themselves. Though it requires a bit of additional work on the user, it offers a bit of flexibility for any inconsistencies that may have come up from years of driving… or the day of the week your car was built on.
We’ve started with a run of 5 sets to start but can have more produced if the interest is there. Three have already been accounted for.
Kit comes with RH and LH frame connectors, 2x rear frame weld-ins, 1x RH front weld-in, 1x LH front weld-in, and installation instructions with high-resolution pictures. I can provide a digital copy of the instructions to anyone who buys a kit.
Disclaimers:
- E-brake cable mount must be removed from frame
- Leaf Springs must be removed from pocket due to the placement of the rear of the connectors.
- We’ve not yet determined if the factory e-brake cable is long enough to move around the side of the connectors. We’re currently waiting on feedback if the factory cable will work or if something like a Hornet cable may be required.
