Whoops. Was tackling a broken vacuum line on Emmett’s 2006 330i when we heard a rattle in the intake manifold. Turns out the DISA valve has left the chat. This is a common failure on these engines. They can cause poor throttle response and performance. Stay turned for the full list of work this car got!

This one really threw me for a loop. In 20 years of electrical work I have never had one this complicated.

Nick’s 2003 SAAB 9-3 came to me with a plethora of issues. The main one being that when you turn the steering wheel, the fuse for the ISM/CIM would blow. After going over the whole circuit and finally getting it to throw an open/short code we found an issue in the steering lock trigger wire and repaired that. The car still continued to behave the same way. We finally traced the issue to a poorly wrapped wiring harness in front of the engine where the alternator wire was making contact with ground and somehow shorting only that circuit. We repaired the wire with a new crimp and section of wire to the alternator and rebuilt the section of harness better than OEM that was damaged and tied it into a better spot to keep it from rubbing through again.

This was also a good time to add some new keys since Nick’s original was pretty beat up and the only one he had.

The car now acts as expected and we are onto the next!

When my neighbors over at Lancaster Luxury Limousines called and asked for an upgrade, I couldn’t possibly say no!

This 2015 Lincoln MKT, stretched and outfitted by Elite Coach is a beautiful vehicle but it was a little stuck back in its birth year with an old Kenwood radio that lacked CarPlay. In order to provide a better experience for their guests, we swapped it out for a new JVC CarPlay unit that also retained the original DVD functions and ability to play to the installed TV in the bar.

This thing is a jukebox on wheels, and for an 11 year old sound system it still has a lot to offer.

2013 Volkswagen Golf in for something a little different. My goal of this project was to prove you don’t need a new head unit to make great sound. For this build we looked to AudioControl for a high end sound and feel without the high end price.

-Metra 4 Gauge Amplifier Kit
-iDataLink DSR1 supplying low level signal and EQ/signal processing (While I would typically use AC for this we had a DSR1 lying around collecting dust)
-AudioControl PNW 6.5 Component Speakers up front
-AudioControl PNW 6.5 Coaxial Speakers in the rear
-AudioControl A1100.5 5 channel amplifier
-AudioControl EPICX V12 Subwoofer w/ Enclosure
-AudioControl ACR-1 Bass K**b
-COB LED Backlighting

This system far exceeded our expectations. It’s CLEAR, it plays great at low volume and at loud volumes. It’s all done! Fred came to me by referral from Huber's Auto Group needing a backup camera. He also told me he wasn’t loving the sound quality of the OEM radio but wanted to keep a CD player. We outfitted this 2014 Beetle with a Kenwood DDX-5707S which offers Apple CarPlay and the ability to play CDs and paired it with an iBeam backup camera. Steering wheel controls are retained via an iDataLink Maestro SR interface. Now he can see directly behind him and the sound quality has drastically improved.
