Here’s what DUI school usually looks like, step by step, so you know exactly what to expect:
Enroll by the deadline
You’ll register after a court or DMV referral. Have your ID, case number, and paperwork ready.
Intake and screening
A brief interview and alcohol/drug screening help the program place you in the right level. Be honest. It keeps you compliant and saves rework later.
Orientation
You’ll review rules, attendance, privacy, and how completion is reported to the court or DMV.
Schedule and hours
Classes are set blocks of time that vary by state and offense level. Missing time usually means make-up sessions.
What you’ll learn
Blood alcohol basics, how substances affect driving, state laws and penalties, decision making, coping skills, and safer-ride planning. Many programs include a victim-impact component.
How classes run
Expect group discussion, short videos, and worksheets. You must arrive sober and on time. Phones stay away.
Assignments
Simple reflections or a change plan. Keep your notes—probation or the court may ask for proof of completion.
Final check and certificate
Once you finish all hours and requirements, you get a completion certificate. The school typically sends proof to the court/DMV, but keep your copy.
After you finish
Handle any remaining steps: fines, SR-22 if required, ignition interlock, and license reinstatement paperwork.
Quick tips: enroll early, don’t miss sessions, ask questions, and save every document.
