A POEM FOR ANDY
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth,
Now, beneath a vault of stars so bright,
I trade my earthly wings for constellations’ light—
For in their glow, I find a peace I’ve never known,
A stillness deeper than the hush of dawn.
The wind that once sang through my mortal frame
Has turned to whispers from the silvered stream,
And every breath I take now tastes of light,
Of galaxies that hum a hymn so pure.
I’ve left the dust and shadows of the ground,
The weight of years, the ache of parting found—
And in the silence of the starry deep,
I hear the voice of God, so near, so keep.
So let the birds still flap their mortal flight,
Let clouds still drift through skies of mortal light—
But I, who traded earthly wings for heavenly stars so vast,
Am home where love and light are never cast.
