Did you Know?

“Harry developed a dedicated clientele by being available practically around the clock to meet the needs of his customers, according to my mother, who described his long hours in that 1961 La Crosse Tribune interview. He left home most days at 5:00 am and often did not return until 1:00 am without even breaking for lunch. It was such a hands-on business that my dad got up out of bed at night to replace keys for customers who had lost them. One night a farmer named Church called him because he needed gas for his Tin Lizzie, something only available then at the Dahl store. After buying one of two dollars’ worth at some ungodly hour of the night, the farmer said, “Charge it,” and got in his car. I’m sure that frustrated Dad, but he understood the importance of serving his customers.”

Getting to Know: Doug Ireland

Meet Doug Ireland, one of our Service Advisors. Doug came to Dahl in 2019 after working as a Service Manager at another dealership. Before that, he sold products to dealerships, making him part of the car business for a total of 30 years!

Doug was born and raised in Burlington and moved to Davenport 10 years ago. He’s been with his partner in crime, Pam, for 15 years. He has a son, two daughters, and two grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, flea market hunting, and working on his 1967 Chevelle. His biggest passion is collecting historical artifacts. He collects antique saws and uses them as decorations in his home. His living room has 20 saws on the walls, including a windmill decoration made entirely of them. His biggest collection, however, is his antique rifle collection. He has many WWII rifles, some even earlier. They each tell a story, his favorite being his 1910 Mosin-Nagant. He has dedicated an entire room to his 75 antique rifles. If a militia is ever needed in the US, Doug would most likely be their commander.

Doug likes going on road trips. He says he likes driving - not flying - so he can see more. He loves visiting historical sights or going anywhere in the desert. He would love to see Alaska someday (although he thinks he might not want to come back!) Anytime you ask Doug how he’s doing he always responds with “peachy”, or “I’m a peach”. Next time you see Doug, be sure to say “Sup Sup”!

Getting to Know: Tricia Trenkamp

Meet Tricia Trenkamp, our Assistant Office Manager. She does a bit of everything in the office. Tricia started in the car business in high school as a receptionist at McEleney Motors and eventually moved into title work and accounting. She worked there for 20 years, before the company was bought out, and decided to move on to something new shortly after. After working as a bank teller and bookkeeper for some time, she was recruited to our office by her former colleague, Karen Petersen, and has been happily back in the car business since.

Tricia was born and raised in Clinton, Iowa. In her free time, she enjoys reading and shopping. She has visited a few places across the US and would like to see Washington DC soon, as she loves seeing the history and architecture everywhere she goes. Some of her favorite trips include seeing The Phantom of the Opera in New York City, seeing Pink in Houston, and her trip to Hawaii, where she says the scenery was like a fairy tale.

Her favorite memory of Dahl is participating in the Rocking Around the Christmas Tree video, and walking in the Tug Fest parade, last summer. She loves spoiling our mascot, Ginny Dahl (who she has nicknamed Sassy). Tricia has a very positive attitude and says she likes coming in to work now. She really appreciates the family atmosphere and genuine care Dahl has to offer. She loves that everyone is always saying good morning, and on the off chance that someone is in a bad mood, she makes it her goal to cheer them up. Her dad’s philosophy was, “If you can make one person smile a day, you’ve done your job.” and she lives by that today. Next time you see Tricia, be sure to say hello!
