Ever wonder what it takes to replace an A/C evaporator on a modern BMW? ❄️

This 2019 BMW X5 is getting an A/C evaporator replacement, and reaching it requires removing nearly the entire dashboard along with the structural crash bar behind it.

What you can still see inside the vehicle is the HVAC housing — and buried inside that assembly is the evaporator we’re after.

Jobs like this are a great example of how complex modern European vehicles have become. Sometimes replacing one component means carefully disassembling a large portion of the interior just to get to it.

Keeping the correct oil on the shelf isn’t always as simple as it sounds!

BMW’s 0W-12 engine oil is currently difficult to get due to a shortage. We traditionally use Liqui Moly for many of our European vehicles, but they currently don’t offer a 0W-12 that meets the BMW specification required for these applications.

Our solution is TotalEnergies, a French lubricant manufacturer that offers the correct 0W-12 carrying the required BMW approval.

We were able to secure 10 cases, so we’re stocked and ready for the newer BMWs that require it!

And remember you don’t have to return to the dealership just for routine maintenance to keep your factory warranty. We can service your BMW using the correct fluids, specifications, and procedures while your vehicle is still under warranty.

The second photo shows the BMW approval right on the bottle. With modern European vehicles, using the correct oil means more than just matching the viscosity-the proper manufacturer specification matters too.
