I am saddened to hear of the passing of Archie Brill early this morning. I am very glad I had the chance to know him and I am extremely honored to be part of the restoration of his race car. Godspeed Archie, we will keep the memory alive, Race In Peace.

I am proud to announce that Mountain Lion Motorsports is now an authorized dealer for Auto Gear Equipment. Auto Gear has the best in replacement and upgraded parts for the Muncie 4 speed transmission. Whether you are looking for a complete new transmission featuring the heavy duty Auto Gear Super Case and upgraded tail housing or you have a correct numbers matching transmission for your vehicle that needs some work we can cover your needs. Several options are available for both new units and upgrades on your original unit. We can repair your old, worn out M20,M21 or M22 to function better than new with high quality Italian made gear sets and parts. Have you always wanted an M22 but have a numbers matching transmission, we can convert yours to either a close ratio or wide ratio gear set. Theses new Italian made gear sets are also available in an extra wide ratio for people with rear gear ratios in the high 2's and low 3's that still want to be able to drive for extended distances on the highway but maintain their current 4 speed platform. These extra wide ratios give you the same low 2.99 first gear ratio which is very close to a T-5 and spaces the remaining gears out for a consistent rpm drop. The 2.99 first gear mated to a 3.08 rear gear provides almost the same total first gear ratio as having a 2.20 first gear of a close ratio trans with a 4.10 gear ,this results in a vehicle that is still easy to drive, responsive and accelerates very well but maintains the ability to cruise on the highway.

It's not just Muncies and street cars either,we also service Saginaw, Borg Warner T10 and Super T10 as well as Tremec and others ,circle track, road race and drag race . Call for more info or to schedule an appointment.

Once again I have been slacking with the updates, that happens when things get out of control.
The 427 that I posted about a few months ago was mated to the Tremec T-5 and reinstalled back into its home in a beautiful 72 Olds Cutlass. After some clean up and corrections of the engine compartment wiring and repairing some issues with the rear-end it was ready for a road test and it didn't disappoint. This car is a joy to drive and behaves so well in local traffic.

Just finished dynoing this pump gas 427 yesterday. This originally came in for a cam and cylinder head change as the owner wanted to get away from the crappy Procomp heads and replace the poorly chosen cam that was installed by someone else. The original combination was very poor and the owner was very unhappy with it. Unfortunately it only continued to go downhill once I opened it up. A 700 mile engine that had no ring seal,no crosshatch left in the cylinders and a leaking rear main seal due to the block being line honed so much to try and repair the housing bores from 3 spun main bearings. After taking several measurements to confirm how far off things were the decision was made to scrap the block and start fresh. The Eagle crank was sent out to be ground and finished correctly, the block was line honed, square decked with the BHJ Blok Tru fixture ,bored and then honed with a torque plate in the CK-10 . Being that the owner had purchased a second new ,rectangle port intake in order to make the original combination somewhat drivable, he didn't want to purchase a 3rd so I had to stay with a rectangle port head. A pair of Edelbrock Performer RPM heads was purchased bare and a correct valve job was done, the guides were sized correctly and the heads were CC'd and milled. The ICON 38cc dome pistons were reused after I spent a couple hours massaging the domes and they were then sent to Line 2Line for skirt coating. A small Howards hydraulic roller cam was installed and after the heads were assembled they were topped off with a set of rocker arms from Straub Technologies and actuated by a set of Manton pushrods. A reproduction GM 163 intake was milled to fit and to correct to poor machining from the manufacturer. After it was filled with quality Maxima break in oil and primed it was topped off with a 750 Holley, bolted on the dyno and warmed up. The new combination showed a peak of 522 lbft of torque at 4000 rpm and a peak of 512 hp at 5600 rpm. The peak numbers don't tell the whole story though as this combination makes 503 lbft of torque at 3300 rpm and still has 503 lbft at 5200 rpm. It will get bolted back together with a new clutch and the Tremec 5 speed that was in the car.

Once again we continued to improve on Jim's car,a little more each year. This car is proof of what can be done with a mild but well thought out combination. This car runs a standard bore, cast crank stock 1992 short block,a set of import aluminum heads with my valve job,a hydraulic roller in the low 220's and a Performer RPM intake, on 93 octane pump gas , a TH 350 that I built for him and an 8.5 10 bolt with a 4.10 gear and a full 3" exhaust. Last year we focused on the suspension and trying to improve the 60' times. After noticing a few things at the track and reviewing some videos of the car in action it was determined that the front springs were dead and the car wasn't reacting properly. All of the front control arm bushings were replaced with urethane and a fresh set of springs were installed after being cut to the proper length .
We also felt it was time to move beyond the old J-bolt style traction bars and get into something more modern and something that would work better with the future upgrades,a call was placed to Calvert Racing and a set of Cal-Trac bars and adjustable rear shocks were on their way. While the rear springs were out to replace the front bushings and install the front Cal-Trac mounts I took the spring pack apart and removed 1 leaf to soften the springs and lower the rear of the car a little. After a very hot test day at Island Dragway we were confident the upgrades had helped. On to the Dover Dragstrip Reunion show at Lebanon Valley where once again we improved and Jim posted his best 60' to date and ran his fastest times yet as we chopped over a tenth off of last years time and he made several passes in the low 11.50's. More improvements coming for this year. Good Luck Jim !

For those that have been following the progress on the Archie Brill 70,after 40 years she lives again. As most of you know Joe Delucia has done a beautiful job on this car so far and I am honored to be a part of this restoration. After Joe converted the car to a more current and safer disc brake set up we completed the lines and got the brakes working. I had a new driveshaft made,we completed the new fuel system, did the wiring and bleed the hydraulic clutch. Unfortunately I ran into some last minute issues while assembling the engine that will stay in the car and it would have taken too long to correct the problem and do the job correctly so I opted to make a cam change to a fresh engine that I had and install that in the car so we could make the reunion. In typical racer fashion it turned into a last minute trash and the night before the reunion ,as we opened the bay door of my shop to push the car outside we joked that we missed the call for warm ups. At 6:20pm on Saturday October 12th the smell of race fuel billowed from the open headers of the 70 once again when we pushed the button to fire it and brake in the new cam. After 40 years it ran, drove and stopped again,on Sunday morning Joe was able to drive it on the trailer for the first time. The car is still with me as we continue to correct some engine mounting issues and it gave me time to build the new engine that will stay in it. Honestly, I enjoy having it in the shop and being able to look at it everyday brings back some great memories of times gone by. Thanks again Joe for letting me be a part of this.

A long overdue Congratulations to Bob Detrick. In August Bob took his beautifully restored vintage Van Diemen Club Ford to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for an event and finished the weekend 4th overall and 3rd in class, earning him a spot on the podium.
Then in September he went to Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin for the Formula Ford 50th Anniversary event where he qualified 6th in an 80 car field. While running 4th on the last lap he was hit in the last corner and dropped to 14th but was able to race his way back up to a 9th place finish. In the last race of the weekend which was an East vs West Shootout he finished 2and overall and 1st in class.
Congratulations Bob !

Something really cool in the shop for a little while. Those of you local to the Danbury area will remember the Danbury Fair and Danbury Racearena, this is one of the cars that raced there. Joe Delucia is restoring this piece of history and I am honored to be a part of it. He brought it in to have me finish the engine and get it running. Watch for updates as we breath some life back into this beautiful restoration.
