Sometimes the work at Kip Motor Company feels a bit like solving a puzzle.

Some cars have been tucked away for years, and others have wiring that doesn’t quite match the original diagram. Tracking down what changed, what’s been added, and what’s supposed to be there is part of the mystery.

A little investigation, a bit of patience, and plenty of experience usually uncover the story.

Take a wander around Kip Motor Company and you’ll find a fair bit going on.

One moment we’re supplying parts, the next we’re making them. And when an uncommon motor decides to be difficult, there may be a spot of grinding, sewing, fabrication, or electrical detective work required.

Parts, repairs, fabrication and the occasional bit of ingenuity — all in a day’s work keeping uncommon cars on the road.

A rather handsome pair of red cars in the shop this week.

Big, small, British, European, American, or simply a bit odd. We rather enjoy working on the cars that don't fit neatly into a category.

On one side, a 1967 Pontiac GTO with a 400 cubic-inch V8 and a very respectable 335 horsepower. On the other, a 1957 BMW Isetta 300 with a modest 298cc single-cylinder engine producing just 13 horsepower.

Rather different in size, character, and mechanical temperament but both quite at home in our shop.

That's the sort of variety we rather like at Kip Motor Company.

The amount of notes, measurements, photographs, and details taken when a car comes into the shop is remarkable.

Add to that decades of hands-on experience, and you begin to understand what goes into properly restoring and maintaining an uncommon vintage vehicle.

It’s not just about fixing what’s in front of you. It’s about understanding how it was built, how it was meant to work, and getting the details right.
